OBJECTIVE: Once daily prednisolone taken at predawn has been proposed to be the glucocorticoid replacement of choice in patients with adrenal insufficiency (AI) who intend to fast for the month of Ramadan. PURPOSE: Guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of adrenal insufficiency (AI) in newborns with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) are poorly defined.
METHODS: From 2002 to 2016, 155 infants were treated for CDH at our institution. Patients with shock refractory to vasopressors (clinically diagnosed AI) were treated with hydrocortisone (HC). The COVID-19 pandemic is spreading worldwide and the impact of the disease in transplant patients is evolving. In this case report, we presented a 63-year-old female kidney transplant recipient who presented with dyspnea and cough and was diagnosed with COVID-19 pneumonia. On the fourth day of admission, the patient's condition worsened. Therefore, the immunosuppressive medications were discontinued, and hydrocortisone was started. The patient died on the fifth day.

Use of an algorithm for assessment of the severity of antenatal fetal distress and prediction of intranatal complications helped choose the optimal mode of delivery individually for each parturient and develop the strategy of rational management of spontaneous labor, which was confirmed by measurements of hydrocortisone levels in umbilical blood during delivery by different modes. Rational management of labor and optimization of delivery were conducive to a reduction of the incidence of grave distress in the newborns.

The authors used ionophoresis applied with an apparatus of own design in 32 patients with posttraumatic changes in the temporomandibular joints. In 24 cases xylocaine and in 8 cases hydrocortisone were used. In 27 cases disappearance of pain was achieved and complications were not observed. The apparatus of own design was applied also for analgesia for operations on the middle ear through the external meatus, and in the treatment of ear buzzing and otalgia of unknown origin.

149 patients were operated upon for the adhesive process in the abdominal cavity. The antirecidivation treatment was performed after operation (intraperitoneal injection of prolonged proteolytic enzymes with hydrocortisone, trypsin electrophoresis). The enzyme therapy was associated with the antiinflammatory and antiallergic treatment. Long-term results were studied in 93 patients within the period from 2 to 10 years. Good results were obtained in 77% of the patients.

Allergic contact dermatitis as a side effect of external corticosteroid application is very rare. About 100 cases have been published since 1959. Hypersensitivity is seldom directed to more than a single corticosteroid. This contribution reports on two cases showing sensitisation to externally applied corticosteroids in addition to other allergic reactions: the first case to Triamcinolone, Prednisolone and Hydrocortisone, the second one only to Triamcinolone.
