The landscape of knowledge graph and large language model-augmented knowledge graph applications in dementia caregiving support: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Dementia's rising prevalence places an immense burden on caregivers. Knowledge graphs (KGs) and large language model (LLM)-augmented KGs are emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) approaches that organize complex dementia care knowledge and enable personalized, context-aware support, yet this field remains nascent. We aimed to map and synthesize research on KGs and LLM-augmented KGs in dementia caregiving, identifying system types, applications, outcomes, challenges, and ethical considerations. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Following the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI)

Recognition of giant cell arteritis and calcified carotid artery atheromas in dental practice: systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is a granulomatous vasculitis affecting medium- and large-sized arteries, most commonly the temporal arteries. Delayed recognition can lead to severe complications, including irreversible vision loss and stroke. Dentists routinely obtain panoramic radiographs for dental assessment, where calcified carotid artery atheromas (CCAA) may appear as incidental findings in the cervical region. This study systematically evaluated the incidence of suspected CCAA detected on panoramic radiographs obtained for dental indications and considered the clinical relevance o

An Epidemiologic Review of Endocrine-disrupting Chemicals and Understudied Gynecologic Health Conditions Affecting Quality of Life.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are exogenous compounds that can deleteriously affect gynecologic health through interference with hormonal systems. Research on EDC exposure and gynecologic health has generally focused on outcomes important for reproduction, particularly fertility. Less attention has been given to gynecologic conditions that substantially affect morbidity and quality of life. In this narrative review, we describe the current epidemiologic literature on EDCs and understudied gynecologic conditions that can be life-altering – adenomyosis, dysmenorrhea, h

Orofacial pain and dementia: a brief narrative review of associations, putative mechanisms, and relevant clinical considerations.

This review examines the possible association between orofacial pain and dementia by synthesizing current findings from clinical, observational, and mechanistic studies. Although chronic pain has been increasingly recognized as a factor linked to cognitive decline, the specific role of orofacial pain, including conditions such as temporomandibular disorders, trigeminal neuralgia, burning mouth syndrome, and primary headaches, remains underexplored. Given the distinct neuroanatomy of the trigeminal system and its close connection to emotional and cognitive processing, orofacial pain may involve

The prevalence and course of idiopathic toe-walking in 5-year-old children.

BACKGROUND: Children walking on their toes instead of with a typical gait, without evidence of an underlying medical condition, are defined as idiopathic toe-walkers. The prevalence of idiopathic toe-walking is unknown. METHODS: A cross-sectional prevalence study of 5.5-year-old children (n = 1436) living in Blekinge County, Sweden, was performed at the regular 5.5-year visit to the local child welfare center. Children were assessed for a history of toe-walking or whether they still walked on their toes. Additionally, all 5.5-year-old children (n = 35) admitted to the clinic for children with

The troubled relationship between psychiatry and sociology.

The alienated relationship between psychiatry and sociology is explored. The two disciplines largely took divergent paths after 1970. On the one side, psychiatry manifested a pre-occupation with methodological questions and sought greater medical respectability, with a biomedical approach returning to the fore. Social psychiatry and its underpinning biopsychosocial model became increasingly marginalised and weakened. On the other side, many sociologists turned away from psychiatry and the epidemiological study of mental health problems and increasingly restricted their interest to social theor
