Herein a case is reported of a full-thickness scleral burn in the left eye of a 61-year-old man, following contact trans-scleral cyclodiode laser treatment for traumatic aphakic glaucoma, unresponsive to maximal medical treatment. Laser photocoagulation of bleeding ulcer is one of the effective methods of endoscopic hemostasis. Experimental studies were carried out on resected stomach preparation. The preparations were studied histologically. Clinical trial was conducted in 43 patients with gastric and duodenal ulcer for hemostasis and prophylaxis of recurrent bleeding. Initial endoscopic hemostasis was successful in all the patients. Relapse of bleeding was seen in 4 patients. Overall efficacy of laser hemostasis was 90.7%. This update discusses the available evidence and provides recommendations regarding when to observe and when and how to treat prophylactically retinal breaks in eyes. We have gained significant experience in the clinical understanding and treatment of PPROM in the last 5 years. From our work we can conclude that iatrogenic PPROM is not only a different entity etiologically, it is also different than spontaneous PPROM in its clinical behavior and response to therapeutic measures. Without treatment mortality is as high as 80% if diagnosed before viability. PURPOSE: To investigate whether transscleral diode laser can create retinal photocoagulation reliably without creating retinal holes under conditions simulating opaque media.
METHODS: In New Zealand pigmented rabbits, optimal infrared diode laser power settings were determined, and transscleral retinal photocoagulation was then applied 4 mm and 6 mm from the limbus without retinal visualization. Transscleral testing was done using retina and cyclophotocoagulation probes placed directly on the sclera, on conjunctiva, and on silicone scleral buckles.
