Impact of a Dynamic Visualized Pain Assessment Tool on Pediatric Pain Management: A Stepped-Wedge Cluster Randomized Trial.

Effective pediatric pain management relies on accurate assessment; however, current behavioral scales are limited by observer subjectivity and fail to capture dynamic fluctuations. The primary goal of this protocol is to detail the implementation and evaluation of a dynamic visualized pain assessment tool, providing a standardized methodology to transition nursing practice from experience-based estimation to data-driven precision. Using a stepped-wedge cluster randomized trial design across five clinical wards, the study enrolled 15 infants and analyzed 45 video segments across three clinical

Possible influence of physical activity on musculoskeletal symptoms of menopausal and postmenopausal women.

The significance of this information is especially meaningful in determining nursing interventions that present minimal health risks and would be effective in reducing bone loss and diminish joint, bone, and muscle aches and pains experience by menopausal women. Nurses as role models, health professionals, and individuals can encourage, support, and teach these women to engage in regular physical exercise. Nurses can also become more knowledgeable regarding factors which influence the musculoskeletal symptoms, e.g., exercise program, smoking, heavy chores surrounding homemaking; and occupation

The effect of experienced compassion at work on nursing home certified nursing assistants' well-being and turnover intentions.

BACKGROUND: Certified nursing assistants (CNAs) are essential to health care delivery in U.S. nursing homes (NHs), yet these direct caregivers are affected by high turnover, which impacts care quality. CNA turnover is costly, resulting in 6-figure annual losses for many NHs. Improving well-being and retaining employees is important for NH survival. Compassion benefits employees and their organizations, and may offer NHs a promising solution. PURPOSE: We study whether experienced compassion at work (experienced compassion) predicts higher well-being (meaningfulness of work [MOW], psychological

Physiologically based pharmacokinetic model to predict drug concentrations of breast cancer resistance protein substrates in milk.

Many mothers need to take some medications during breastfeeding, which may carry a risk to breastfed infants. Thus, determining the amount of a drug transferred into breast milk is critical for risk-benefit analysis of breastfeeding. Breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP), an efflux transporter which usually protects the body from environmental and dietary toxins, was reported to be highly expressed in lactating mammary glands. In this study, we developed a mechanistic lactation physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling approach incorporating BCRP mediated transport kinetics to si

Nurse practitioners in pediatric critical care: results of a national survey.

The nurse practitioner in pediatric critical care is a distinct advanced practice nursing role that has seen a tremendous increase in development and implementation over the past 10 years. There is a paucity of literature on this unique and valuable role. A total of 74 nurse practitioners practicing in pediatric critical care were surveyed. Part I of the survey solicited descriptive information of the nurse practitioner including background, work environment, reporting structure, and salary. The respondents also identified their role responsibilities that included direct patient management, nu

OC05 - Tokenism or true partnership - parental involvement in a child's acute pain care.

UNLABELLED: Theme: Parenting/parenthood. INTRODUCTION: Family-centred care (FCC) is widely acknowledged as underpinning children's nursing. Delivering FCC requires nurses to advocate for family involvement, particularly in areas where evidence suggest the child's needs are not being met, such as pain care. AIM: To explore parental involvement in their child's acute pain care. METHODS: A qualitative ethnographical approach was adopted, with non-participant observation and follow-up interviews. The framework approach underpinned data analysis. RESULTS: Partnership between nurses and parents

CALS and ACB Scales are Associated with Physical and Cognitive Impairment and Predict Mortality in Nursing Home Residents.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Anticholinergic medications are known to affect the prognosis of older nursing home residents. Various anticholinergic scales were developed to measure the cumulative anticholinergic burden; among them, the CRIDECO Anticholinergic Load Scale (CALS) has recently emerged as a new tool to identify patients with cognitive impairment due to anticholinergic burden. This study aimed to externally validate the CALS and to evaluate the association of CALS and the anticholinergic cognitive burden (ACB) scales with baseline cognitive and functional impairment, as well as with 3-

Health professionals need to be able to identify depression in older people.

Healthcare literature shows that depression in older people, as a mental health problem, is often under-recognized and under-managed. This may partly be the result of multiple pathology, a common feature in later life, masking the features of depressive illness. It may also be the consequence of inadequate use of mental health specialists' skills. As the population is ageing rapidly, healthcare professionals will encounter more cases of depression among the older population. Some therapeutic approaches have been suggested for nurses to adopt. More importantly, nurses and other care workers hav
