Comparative Evaluation of Astigmatic Changes Induced by Superior and Temporal Corneal Incisions in Sutureless Phacoemulsification Surgery: A Case Series.

Background In cataract surgery, the effect of corneal incision astigmatism has been widely recognized for many years. The incision's size, shape, and location can all impact the patient's postoperative visual outcomes. Currently, phacoemulsification is considered the most preferred surgical technique for cataract extraction. However, there is still some debate about whether temporal incisions, which are smaller and considered nearly astigmatic neutral, result in more astigmatism than other incisions. As a result, it is important to continue studying the refractive changes induced by corneal in…

[The effect of phacoemulsification of age-related cataract on intraocular pressure and iridocorneal angle parameters in primary open-angle glaucoma].

UNLABELLED: Cataract phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation significantly affects the morphology of the anterior chamber angle (ACA) and contributes to a reduction of intraocular pressure (IOP). PURPOSE: This study investigates the changes in anterior chamber angle configuration and IOP level before and after cataract surgery in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) eyes, and assesses its possible relationship with the axial length of the eye. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included 38 patients with immature senile cataract and compensated unoperated stage I-II POAG. Patients u…

Long-Term Outcomes of a Kahook Dual Blade Procedure Combined with Phacoemulsification in Japanese Patients with Open-Angle Glaucoma.

We retrospectively evaluated the long-term surgical outcomes of phacoemulsification combined with a Kahook dual blade (KDB) procedure in Japanese patients with open-angle glaucoma. The primary outcome was surgical success or failure. Surgical failure was indicated by a <20% reduction in preoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) or IOP > 18 mmHg (criterion A), IOP > 14 mmHg (criterion B), or requirement for reoperation. Glaucoma medications after surgery and postoperative complications were recorded. Surgical outcomes were compared between primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and exfoliation glauco…

Efficacy and effect of intracameral adrenaline infusion on pulse rate and blood pressure during phacoemulsification in patients with dark irides.

BACKGROUND: Chemotherapy (CT) is a systemic treatment using a combination of antineoplastic drugs, orally or intravenously, that inhibit tumor growth and fast-growing normal cells. Due to its nonspecificity, chemotherapy can cause a series of adverse effects, such as altered taste (dysgeusia), associated with malnutrition and, consequently, other adverse effects in the gastrointestinal tract and increased mortality risk. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of dysgeusia on the incidence of other adverse effects and overall survival during antineoplastic chemotherapy. MATERIAL AND METHOD

[Cataract surgery outcomes by temporal small incision techniques with and without phacoemulsification. Results of a prospective study from Kenya].

BACKGROUND: The present outcomes of cataract surgery in Africa do not meet the recommendations of the World Health Organization. Superior manual small incision cataract surgery (SICS) is the operation of choice in many developing countries. However, there is good evidence that temporal incisions are more stable and cause less surgically induced astigmatism (SIA). METHODS: In a prospective, non-randomized study in an anterior segment clinic in the southeastern part of Kenya, 405 eyes were operated on using either temporal phacoemulsification (n = 288) or temporal SICS (n = 117) with implantati…

Macular Edema and Intraocular Pressure Outcomes Following Periocular versus Topical Corticosteroids After Phacoemulsification: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

TOPIC: Postoperative inflammation after phacoemulsification is routinely managed with topical corticosteroids, while periocular administration may provide a sustained anti-inflammatory effect. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Pseudophakic cystoid macular edema (PCME) remains a leading cause of suboptimal visual recovery after cataract surgery. Periocular corticosteroid injections may offer a single-dose alternative to topical regimens, minimizing adherence-related limitations. METHODS: Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines (PROSPERO CRD420250632011), PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Registered of Cont…
