This article reviews the anatomy of the lower face in light of approach and techniques for prejowl implant. Implant sizing, patient selection and analysis, technique, and complications are presented. The author cites the manner of aging in the lower face and discusses the concept of augmenting the mandible to re-establish a youthful contour by correcting the prejowl sulcus and chin for rejuvenation. Because the prejowl sulcus and jowling camouflage the jawline, recontouring the mandible with implants restores the smooth jawline to provide optimal result by restoring the oval face shape.

Functional reconstruction of an occlusion with severe residual ridge resorption is a clinical challenge. Removable prostheses are unsuccessful in situations with severe bone resorption. BACKGROUND: Articular Surface Replacement (ASR) hip prostheses, which have metal-on-metal bearing surfaces, were manufactured by DePuy Orthopaedics (Warsaw, Indiana) for use in both conventional total hip arthroplasty and hip resurfacing. Implant-supported rehabilitations show higher patient satisfaction when compared with conventional prostheses. Systemic conditions, however, can affect treatment planning of dental implant supported rehabilitations. The oral structures that are commonly affected in patients with Down syndrome include the tongue (macroglossia), teeth (number and shape), and poor quality alveolar and jaw bones (osteoporotic-like). This clinical case presents an interdisciplinary team approach aimed at achieving functional, phonetic, and esthetic outcomes in a patient with Down syndrome.

The possibilities of the use of untypical prostheses of the hip in cases with lesion of the proximal femoral end together with a part of the shaft have been presented. A hip prosthesis with the upper part of the femur was implanted in two cases for neoplastic disease, and in one case for pseudoarthrosis of the femur within the intertrochanteric region. Good early clinical and radiological results was obtained and the total range of motion in the implanted joint was 210 degrees. After operation the patients did not complain about pain and they walked with the aid of a cane.

Success of total artificial heart (TAH) implantation as a temporary measure depends on three factors: proper patient selection, adequate surgical technique, and safe cardiac prostheses. From 1986 until March 1990, 237 patients with stagnant heart failure were examined. Sixty-one patients (27%) were put on a waiting list. Thirty-eight percent of them died awaiting transplantation. OBJECTIVES: The reconstruction of complex facial defects should satisfy both aesthetic and functional requirements. In the midfacial area, the nasal passage should be sufficiently separated from the orbit and the oral cavity to avoid both dysphagia and articulation disorders and to allow unimpaired nasal breathing. In the case of large defects, the use of craniofacial prostheses alone is ineffective in the restoration of functional units in the majority of patients. Therefore, we evaluated the combination of microvascular tissue transfer and episthetic constructions in a series of patients.
