We have evaluated the efficacy of nedocromil sodium 1% nasal spray in 29 patients (14 males and 15 females, mean age 23 years) who had been suffering from seasonal allergic rhinitis due to Parietaria for at least three years. The efficacy of the second generation antihistamine ebastine has been investigated in the treatment and prevention of seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR). In a double-blind randomised study, patients treated with a single daily dose of ebastine 10mg (n = 116) for 2 weeks showed a significant improvement in symptoms of SAR compared with those treated with placebo (n = 85). An intensified course of specific immunotherapy (36 days) has been tried in 72 children with atopic vasomotor rhinitis. The age of the patients ranged from 5 to 15 years. The effectiveness of the treatment was assessed by nasal mucosa function, cellular and humoral immunity measured throughout the treatment and 6 moths after it. Good results were obtained in 71.1% of the patients, satisfactory in 24.4%, unresponsive children made up 4.2%. No complications occurred.
