Ten-year Follow-up of Implant Treatment after Bilateral Lateral Approach to Sinus Elevation with Autologous Bone: A Case Report.

Maxillary sinus floor elevation is an option in cases where bone volume in the maxillary molar region is clearly insufficient to allow implant therapy. However, few studies have reported long-term observation of change in bone volume in the same case over a period of 10 or more years. This report describes a case of implant placement following maxillary sinus floor elevation using iliac bone with long-term monitoring of changes in peri-implant bone volume. The patient was a 58-year-old man who visited our clinic in April 2008 with the chief complaint of chewing problems due to missing teeth. T

Fish: a new xenograft source for maxillary sinus lifting.

OBJECTIVE: Although autogenous grafting is accepted as the gold standard in intraoral grafting, xenogenous grafts are frequently used in sinus lift surgeries due to their osteoinductive and osteoconductive properties. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of fish spine-derived xenogenic grafts in sinus augmentation surgery. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In this study, a fish spine-derived xenogenic graft was produced for comparison with autogenous graft and bovine derived xenogenic grafts. Twenty-one New Zealand rabbits were used. Autogenous grafts (AG- Group 1), as well as bovine-derived (bHA

Implant success remains high despite grafting voids in the maxillary sinus.

OBJECTIVES: Given that the nature and presence of voids present within grafted sinuses following maxillary sinus elevation procedures were not known, nor was the contribution of these factors to implant success, the purpose of this study was to investigate these parameters and their relationship to implant success. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study evaluated data from 25 subjects who had a lateral window maxillary sinus augmentation procedure. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) was performed at baseline and 4 months after surgery. CBCT images were used to evaluate grafted sites prior to imp

Zygomatic implant placement in conjunction with sinus bone grafting: the "extended sinus elevation technique." a case-cohort study.

PURPOSE: The zygomatic implant is mainly indicated for the rehabilitation of extremely atrophied maxillae when bone augmentation should be avoided. One drawback of zygomatic implants, which typically pass through the sinus, is initial or late bone resorption around the implant neck, which can result in oroantral communications followed by possible infection of the sinus. To decrease the risk of sinus infection, a modified technique was developed to preserve the integrity of the sinus membrane and to regenerate bone around zygomatic implants using an extended sinus grafting approach. MATERIALS

The use of injectable sonication-induced silk hydrogel for VEGF(165) and BMP-2 delivery for elevation of the maxillary sinus floor.

Sonication-induced silk hydrogels were previously prepared as an injectable bone replacement biomaterial, with a need to improve osteogenic features. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF(165)) and bone morphogenic protein-2 (BMP-2) are key regulators of angiogenesis and osteogenesis, respectively, during bone regeneration. Therefore, the present study aimed at evaluating in situ forming silk hydrogels as a vehicle to encapsulate dual factors for rabbit maxillary sinus floor augmentation. Sonication-induced silk hydrogels were prepared in vitro and the slow release of VEGF(165) and BMP-2 fr…
