The effect of local anaesthetic infiltration on urethral function during the tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) procedure.

Different anaesthetic techniques are used for the tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) procedure. Using local anaesthetic and spinal techniques allows surgeons to adjust sling tension with the cough test. The aim of this study was to asses whether the periurethral infiltration of the local anaesthetic technique for TVT results in a significant alteration in urethral function. Twenty-five women who underwent a TVT procedure for stress incontinence were studied prospectively. Urethral function was assessed with the urethral retro-resistance pressure (URP) before and after the infiltration of local an

Lynx midurethral sling system: a 1-year prospective study on efficacy and safety.

The objective of this study is to determine the outcomes for the Lynx midurethral sling system in the treatment of urodynamic stress incontinence (USI). Prospective study of 118 subjects who underwent a Lynx midurethral sling procedure for USI. Subjects were considered cured if they were subjectively dry by history and objectively dry by standing stress test. Intraoperative and postoperative complications were documented. Complete information was available on 102 (86%) subjects at 1 year. Ninety-two patients were considered cured, and ten were failures. There were four intraoperative bladder p

Transobturator sling with intraoperative cough test is effective for patients with low valsalva leak point pressure.

OBJECTIVE: The transobturator sling (TOS) is safe and effective for the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Controversy exists regarding its efficacy in patients with low valsalva leak point pressure (VLPP), a marker of intrinsic sphincter deficiency (ISD). We review our experience of TOS in the treatment of women with SUI and low VLPP. METHODS: Patients diagnosed with stress or mixed incontinence treated with TOS were identified by retrospective review. All procedures were performed with local anesthesia and intravenous sedation. Stress incontinence and VLPP were determine

Impact of new decrees on pelvic implant surgery in France: Results of a national survey among urologists and gynecologists.

INTRODUCTION: Recent decrees conditioning the placement of pelvic implants on a minimum annual activity threshold per institution have raised concerns. A survey was conducted among French urologists and gynecologists to assess their practices and perceptions of these measures. METHODS: An online questionnaire was distributed via three scientific societies (AFU, CNGOF, SCGP) in May 2025. It covered four themes: respondents' characteristics, experience in pelviperineology, impact of the new decrees, and opinions on surgical thresholds. The response collection period was 21days, with a reminder

A randomized comparison of a single-incision needleless (Contasure-needleless®) mini-sling versus a mid-urethral sling (Contasure-KIM®): 60-month follow-up results.

OBJECTIVES: Mid-urethral sling (MUS) insertion is the gold standard approach to treat stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and adaptable single-incision mini-slings (SIMSs) aim to reduce complications. A previous study of our team has found that SIMSs were comparable to transobturator slings in cure rates after 24 months of follow-up. This study aims to compare the rates of cure, complications and re-intervention of both slings over a long-term follow-up of 5 years. STUDY DESIGN: In this prospective trial, 179 women with SUI were randomly assigned to groups. A single surgeon performed all surger

Male sling adjustability: does it truly matter?

PURPOSE: Patients with post prostatectomy incontinence (PPI) seem to have different needs. Therefore, device post-operative readjustability may be a beneficial feature in PPI management, even though it lacks study support. The purpose of this study is to describe our surgical technique for male sling (MS) implantation, assess outcomes, and the impact of readjustability. METHODS: We performed a retrospective analysis of 89 consecutive patients who underwent PPI correction with MS Argus-T™ (Promedon, Córdoba, Argentina) from 2009 to 2021. The median follow-up was 48 months (12-120). Data were c

Mesh-associated pain syndrome: predictors for continence and prolapse mesh removal surgery in a single centre.

OBJECTIVE: Over the last two decades one of the main surgical treatment for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and pelvic organ prolapse (POP) surgery was the insertion of non-absorbable mesh to restore continence and prolapse respectively. Over time complications arose including mesh-associated pain syndrome (MAPS), mesh exposure, mesh, erosion, chronic bladder/vaginal infections, and dyspareunia. Consequently, women chose surgical mesh removal to counter these problems. However, little is known about the demographics, medical co-morbidities, mesh types involved and the timing from mesh insert

Autologous fascial slings remain viable at long-term follow-up: a post cystectomy case report.

BACKGROUND: Autologous fascial slings (AFS) have been used for a very long time in the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence, but the introduction of synthetic mesh slings placed either retropubicallyor trans-obturator has decreased the need to harvest the autologous rectus muscle fascia, thus reducing invasiveness and operative time. However AFS are still indicated in complicated cases and re-interventions, and the FDA has underlined safety concerns over the use of surgical meshes for the transvaginal repair of prolapsed pelvic organs.
