Vulvar and vaginal cancers represent rare malignancies, with an incidence of 2.7 per 100,000 women for vulvar cancer, predominantly affecting women older than 60 years, although rising rates are observed in younger demographics. Approximately 90% of vulvar cancers are squamous cell carcinoma and frequently are associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Vaginal cancer, constituting less than 1% of all female cancers, similarly exhibit HPV-related trends. This review delineates the etiology, histopathology, and treatment strategies for carcinomas and vulvovaginal melanomas and sarcoma

RATIONALE: Primary vaginal adenocarcinoma (PVA) is an exceptionally rare malignancy, with most cases historically linked to in utero diethylstilbestrol (DES) exposure. Non-DES-associated PVA following definitive chemoradiotherapy for cervical cancer is extremely uncommon, and no standardized management protocol exists. This case illustrates a rare instance of radiation-associated PVA and highlights therapeutic considerations in previously irradiated pelvic fields.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 53-year-old postmenopausal woman presented with intermittent vaginal bleeding occurring 5 years after radical

Vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VaIN) represents a rare and asymptomatic pre-neoplastic lesion. Its natural history and potential evolution into invasive cancer are uncertain. VaIN can occur alone or as a synchronous or metachronous lesion with cervical and vulvar HPV-related intra epithelial or invasive neoplasia. Its association with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia is found in 65% of cases, with vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia in 10% of cases, while for others, the association with concomitant cervical or vulvar intraepithelial neoplasias is found in 30-80% of cases. VaIN is often asy

A 64-year old female presented with urinary retention. Physical examination revealed a firm mass on the anterior vaginal wall. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a tumor surrounding the urethra, which invaded to the vesical triangle and the anterior vaginal wall. Serum levels of carcinoembryonic antigen and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 were elevated, but squamous cell carcinoma antigen and prostate specific antigen were within normal limits. Pathological examinations of the transurethral and transvaginal needle biopsy specimen suggested mucinous adenocarcinoma. First, the patient received local ch

Metastases to the female genital tract from extragenital cancers are uncommon. The ovaries are most often affected with the breast and gastrointestinal tract being the most common sites of the primary malignancy. Metastases to the uterus from extragenital cancers are significantly rarer than metastases to the ovaries and in the majority of cases the ovaries are also involved. A case of metastases restricted to the uterine corpus, cervix and vagina from breast carcinoma, without involvement of the ovaries, is described. The patient who had been on tamoxifen therapy presented with postmenopausal

BACKGROUND: A retrospective cohort study was performed in 1063 women diagnosed with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 3 (CIN3) (previously termed carcinoma in situ- CIS) in the National Women's Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand. The study describes the clinical management and outcomes for women with CIN3 diagnosed in the decade of 1965-1974, when treatment with curative intent was withheld in an unethical clinical study of the natural history of CIS. A comparison is made with women who were diagnosed earlier (1955-1964) and later (1975-1976).
AIMS: The aim of the study is to record the m

So-called gastric-type adenocarcinoma and related premalignant lesions have been characterized in the cervix, but similar lesions are not widely recognized in the vagina. We report a series of 11 vaginal glandular lesions exhibiting gastric differentiation, comprising 5 cases of adenocarcinoma and 6 of adenosis. All cases occurred in adults (aged 33 to 69) with no known history of diethylstilboestrol exposure. The vaginal adenocarcinomas exhibited morphologic features identical to gastric-type adenocarcinoma of the cervix, but 1 case additionally demonstrated basaloid and sarcomatoid component

INTRODUCTION: Although the natural history of cervical and oral human papillomavirus infection has been intensively investigated in the past years, the ability of this virus to infect oral and genital mucosae in the same individual and its potential to co-infect both cervical and oral mucosa are still unclear.
AIM: The aim of the authors was to assess the presence of oropharyngeal human papillomavirus infection in women with cervical lesions in the South-Eastern Hungarian population.
METHOD: The total of 103 women have been included in the study between March 1, 2013 and January 1, 2015. Bru

PURPOSE: The aim of this paper was to determine the incidence of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) and cancer of lower genital tract in patients with anogenital warts and their treatment.
METHODS: Between 1 September 1988 and 30 June 1994, 221 consecutive women with anogenital warts were prospectively examined in the colposcopy outpatient clinic. In 2004, the same group of patients was re-examined.
RESULTS: There were abnormal cytological findings in 111 (50.2%) patients; 31 patients (14.0%) had HSIL, and 6 of them (2.7%) had cancer. There were abnormal colposcopic findings i

OBJECTIVES: Cervical cancer (CC) had the second highest incidence of female cancers in Malaysia in 2003-2006. Prevention is possible by both Pap smear screening and HPV vaccination with either the bivalent vaccine (BV) or the quadrivalent vaccine (QV). In the present study, cost effectiveness options were compared for three programs i.e. screening via Pap smear; modeling of HPV vaccination (QV and BV) and combined strategy (screening plus vaccination). A scenario based sensitivity analysis was conducted using screening population coverages (40-80%) and costs of vaccines (RM 100-200/dose) were

Human papilloma virus is associated with a multitude of lower genital tract diseases in women in addition to cervical cancer, including genital warts, vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia, vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia, and some vulvar, vaginal, and anal cancers that are associated with oncogenic subtypes. The degree to which HPV manifests pathology depends on viral type, host immune response, and local environmental factors. This article reviews the evaluation and management of the following vulvar and vaginal human papilloma virus diseases: condyloma, vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia, and va
