In 3 patients with a congenital aneurysm of the membranous portion of the ventricular septum diagnosis could be made by angiography. One of these patients was clinically asymptomatic, while the two other patients were transferred for surgery because of right ventricular outflow tract obstruction or intracardiac left-to-right shunt. These both patients underwent successful open heart corrections. Aneurysms with a different intracardiac localization could be found. One of the cases represents an unusual association with corrected transposition of the great vessels.

Seven patients with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HC) were treated with oral disopyramide. Left ventricular outflow tract gradients were estimated using either Doppler or M-mode echocardiography. Gradients were measured before treatment, after acute and chronic dosing, after washout and after rechallenge. Disopyramide serum levels were measured at the time of echocardiography. Atrial septal defect (ASD) is one of the most common congenital heart defects requiring procedural intervention. In such cases, transcatheter closure of secundum ASDs has been demonstrated to be safe and effective in both children and adults, with similar success and complication rates to surgery. However, appropriate patient selection and an accurate device selection is mandatory to prevent serious complications such as ventricular arrhythmias, outflow tract obstruction of the left and right ventricle, or ischemic events secondary to the obstruction of blood flow due to device embolization.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a clinically and genetically heterogeneous disorder but data on survival rates are still conflicting and have not so far been quantitatively reviewed. BACKGROUND: Subaortic obstruction is one of the risk factors for anatomic repair of double outlet right ventricles (DORV). A comprehensive approach to such lesions has been developed in our institution since 1981. This retrospective work analyzes the results of this approach.

Between 1971 and December 1976, 27 children with congenital heart disease underwent right ventricular outflow tract reconstruction with conduits incorporating a Björk-Shiley valve. The conditions corrected were pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect (14 patients), truncus arteriosus (6 patients), and complex disease (7 patients).
