Carcinosarcomas are rare malignant tumors derived of both epithelial and mesenchymal elements. Herein, we report an elderly man originally diagnosed with a squamous cell carcinoma of the hand. Upon excision, the tumor was found to be a more aggressive carcinosarcoma. Immunohistochemical stains revealed that the sarcoma component of the lesion was vimentin positive, whereas the primary carcinoma tumor cells were positive for p63 and CK903. BACKGROUND: Angiomyofibroblastoma (AMF) is a rare benign mesenchymal neoplasm that arises in the pelviperial region.
CASE: A patient presented with a painless mass in the right vulva. Under the preoperative diagnosis of Bartholin cyst, she underwent a simple tumor excision. Pathological examination revealed an AMF. Immunohistochemical examination showed that tumor cells were positive for estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, vimentin, and CD34. A case of an angiomyolipoma of the large intestine occurring in a 55-year-old man without evidence of tuberous sclerosis is reported. Endoscopically, the lesion resembled a sessile adenomatous polyp. The tumor measured 1 cm. Histologic examination revealed a lesion composed predominantly of spindle and epithelioid cells with significant nuclear atypia. Mitoses were rare. The tumor was strongly positive for HMB-45, CD68, vimentin, desmin, and smooth muscle actin. Rare scattered cells reacted with CD34. No residual tumor was found in the resected colon.

We describe a case of multiple polypoid lesions that occurred in the colon of a 62-year-old man. Eight of the lesions were demonstrated by barium enema, and five were examined histologically. A small nodule in the submucosa of the ascending colon was histologically identical to granular cell tumor, characterized by nested growth of large tumor cells with ample granular cytoplasm and small round nuclei. Immunohistochemically, the cells were positive for S-100, neuron-specific enolase and vimentin, and negative for alpha-smooth muscle actin and desmin.

Surgery revealed an encapsulated tumour composed exclusively of spindle-shaped cells within a richly vascularised myxoid stroma. A case of choroid plexus neoplasm histologically composed of tubular structures lined by a layer of cuboidal epithelium is reported. The neoplasm was located in the fourth ventricle of a 26-year-old man. The intense positivity for antisera anti-vimentin, anti-cytokeratin, anti-EMA and anti-S100 protein exhibited by these cells was consistent with choroid plexus origin. The patient is alive and in good health 5 years after surgery. The lesion represents a benign choroid plexus neoplasm not previously reported. The name "tubular adenoma of choroid plexus" is suggested for this variant.

A malignant mesenchymoma arising in the spermatic cord of a 79-year-old patient is described. The radiologic appearance was that of a predominantly calcified mass. Histologically the tumor was composed primarily of malignant cartilage. In other areas there were spindle-shaped cells and large eosinophilic and multinucleated giant cells. This report describes three cases of intrapulmonary fibromas which are histologically identical to localized fibrous tumors of pleura (localized fibrous mesothelioma).
