Influences of myopic residual refractions on uncorrected distance visual acuity in eyes with conventional and enhanced monofocal intraocular lenses.

BACKGROUND: In eyes with conventional monofocal intraocular lenses (IOLs), uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) deteriorates as myopic refraction error increases. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate tolerance to myopic residual refraction in eyes with conventional and enhanced monofocal IOLs. METHODS: Clinical records of 166 eyes from 135 patients with conventional monofocal IOLs (XY1, Hoya) and 55 eyes from 28 patients with enhanced monofocal IOLs (XY1-EM, Hoya) were reviewed. Associations between UDVA and refractive error spherical equivalent (SE) were evaluated using two analys

Clinical Outcomes of Combined Pars Plana Vitrectomy and PAUL Glaucoma Implant.

Combined PGI implantation and pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) provided effective intraocular pressure (IOP) control with an acceptable safety profile. These findings suggest that this combined approach represents a viable surgical option for challenging glaucoma cases requiring simultaneous vitreoretinal intervention. In complex cases of secondary glaucoma following vitreoretinal surgery (VR) where patients require both IOP control and treatment of coexisting vitreoretinal (VR) pathology, a combined surgical approach with VR surgery and glaucoma drainage devices (GDD) may be necessary. However, the

Rotational stability of two different piggyback toric intraocular lenses for correction of high post-keratoplasty pseudophakic ametropia.

We present the case of a 65-year-old man with bilateral keratoconus and history of bilateral penetrating keratoplasty (PK) who developed gradual visual decline in the left eye due to cataract formation. Following successful left eye cataract surgery and monofocal, non-toric intraocular lens (IOL) in-the-bag implantation, the patient experienced persistently low uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) due to high residual refractive error and intolerance to contact lenses. A supplementary toric IOL was placed in the ciliary sulcus, but subsequent rotational instability of the lens required re

Intrastromal corneal ring segments for management of keratoconus.

UNLABELLED: Keratoconus is a progressive corneal ectasia, which can be managed both by conservative measures like glasses or contact lenses in non-progressive cases or surgical procedures like collagen crosslinking (CXL) with or without adjuvant measures like intrastromal corneal rings segments (ICRS) or topography guided ablation. Various kinds of ICRS are available to the surgeon, but it is most essential to be able to plan the implantation of the ring to optimize outcomes. AIMS: The aim of this study is to evaluate the visual outcome and progression in patients of keratoconus implanted wit
