In a female White Polled Heath a congenital shortening and abnormal bending of the tail was observed. The trunk appeared to be shortened and almost quadratic. However, further findings could not be ascertained in the general clinical, neurological and orthopaedic examination. We report on a 27-year-old man with Fabry disease who had widespread white-matter lesions (WMLs) despite the absence of renal or cardiac manifestations. Genomic analysis revealed a novel mutation: a GAT deletion at nucleotide position 234-236 in exon 5 of the coding region. After 12 months of enzyme replacement therapy (ERT), most of the WMLs had disappeared. Cell counts and protein levels in the cerebrospinal fluid also decreased. These findings suggest that ERT may play a role in the recovery of WMLs.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze and review the characteristics of leukoencephalopathy with vanishing white matter (VWM).
METHODS: The clinical features including clinical manifestations, neurologic signs, cranial MRI and laboratory tests in 9 patients with the diagnosis of VWM were analyzed and the characteristics of the disease were reviewed.

Influence of the single injection of iphosphomid on kidney function during 24 hours after injection under functional loading (water and saline) was investigated. It was established that the single injection of iphosphomid to white rats led to changes of renal function manifested by decrease of creatinine clearence as well as tubular transport. It was shown that saline loading resulted in weakening of renal functional reserve accompanied by significant proteinuria, glucoseuria and disturbances of osmoregulation.

Darier-White disease (DWD), otherwise known as keratosis follicularis, is a rare disorder of keratinization of the epidermis, mucous membranes, and nails. It is autosomal dominant in transmission. Patients with DWD are prone to frequent superinfection including the rare complication of Kaposi varicelliform eruption. It is postulated that a defect in cell-mediated immunity may contribute to this predisposition.
