Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are preventable, potentially traumatic events occurring before age 18 years. Data on ACEs among adolescents in the United States have primarily been collected through parent report and have not included important violence-related ACEs, including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. This report presents the first national prevalence of self-reported ACEs among U.S. high school students aged <18 years, estimates associations between ACEs and 16 health conditions and risk behaviors, and calculates population-attributable fractions of ACEs with these conditio

IMPORTANCE: Mental health among children and adolescents is a critical public health issue, and transgender and gender nonbinary youths are at an even greater risk. Social media has been consistently associated with youth mental health, but little is known about how gender identity interacts with this association.
OBJECTIVE: To use a risk and resilience approach to examine the association between social media use and mental health among transgender, gender nonbinary, and cisgender youths.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This cross-sectional study analyzed data collected from an online sur

OBJECTIVE: To gain insight into the role of germline genetics in the development of chordoma, the authors evaluated data from 2 sets of patients with familial chordoma, those with and without a germline duplication of the T gene (T-dup+ vs T-dup-), which was previously identified as a susceptibility mechanism in some families. The authors then compared the patients with familial tumors to patients with sporadic chordoma in the US general population reported to the National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program through 2015.
METHODS: Evaluation of family

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a growing health burden globally, and its concurrence with Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) significantly increases morbidity and mortality. However, long-term mortality trends remain underexplored. This study aims to assess temporal trends in mortality from comorbid T2DM and CHF in the United States (U.S.) from 1999 to 2020, with emphasis on demographic and geographical disparities.
METHODS: We analysed U.S. mortality data from 1999 to 2020 for adults aged ≥ 25 years with coexisting T2DM and CHF using the CDC WONDER Multiple Cause of Deat

Objective: Mental and behavioral disorders due to psychoactive substance use, as defined by ICD-10 codes F10-F19, include a spectrum of substance use disorders such as acute intoxication, withdrawal, harmful use, and dependence related to alcohol, opioids, stimulants, cannabis, tobacco, and other substances. These conditions significantly increase the risk of suicide, yet national trends in suicide-related mortality among affected individuals remain underexplored. This study aimed to evaluate national trends in suicide and self-harm mortality among individuals with these disorders from 1999 to

AIMS/BACKGROUND: As cannabis use continues to increase in the United States, racialized stereotypes and structural barriers to care might lead to inequitable treatment uptake across racialized groups. A greater understanding of racial disparities in cannabis treatment uptake and perceived treatment need among people with cannabis use disorder (CUD) in community-based samples is needed.
METHODS: Nationally representative data from the 2002-2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (N=1,005,421) included community-based people ages 12+ First, we assessed trends in CUD (i.e., meeting 2+ DSM-5

INTRODUCTION: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease, more prevalent among African-American women, often associated with severe manifestations such as lupus nephritis and neuropsychiatric lupus. Both conditions contribute significantly to morbidity and mortality, though lupus nephritis is more commonly linked to direct disease-related deaths. Mortality can also result from other severe disease manifestations or treatment-related complications. Assessing disparities in place of death among lupus patients is essential for improving care quality through targeted physician and
