Microbial leakage of MTA, Portland cement, Sealapex and zinc oxide-eugenol as root-end filling materials.

Dysthymic disorder is a chronic depressive condition occurring in 0.6-4.6% of children and 1.6-8.0% of adolescents. Although symptoms are less severe than those observed in major depression, childhood-onset dysthymic disorder is characterised by a persistent and long-term depressed or irritable mood (mean episode duration 3-4 years), a worse outcome than major depression and, frequently, comorbid disorders (in around 50% of patients). Long-lasting depressive symptoms seem responsible for long-term disabling consequences on social skill learning, psychosocial functioning and consequent professi

The complete endodontic obturation of an avulsed immature permanent incisor with mineral trioxide aggregate: a case report.

The use of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) for complete endodontic obturation of an immature maxillary central incisor is reported. The injured tooth of a 9-year-old male was avulsed secondary to a sports-related traumatic event. Early attempts at pulpal revascularization of the replanted tooth proved unsuccessful, as evidenced by radiographic signs of external inflammatory root resorption in the middle to cervical thirds of the root. Calcium hydroxide apexification over a 1-year period promoted cessation of the resorptive process, but was unable to adequately form an apical root canal barrie

Prophylactic treatment of dens evaginatus using mineral trioxide aggregate.

Two case reports with dens evaginatus are presented. Each patient had one tooth affected. There was a prominent tubercle on the occlusal surface of the mandibular second premolar. Under local anesthesia and rubber dam isolation a partial pulpotomy was conducted and mineral trioxide aggregate was placed. After 6 months the teeth were removed as part of planned orthodontic treatment. Histological examination of these teeth showed an apparent continuous dentin bridge formation in both teeth, and the pulps were free of inflammation. These cases show that mineral trioxide aggregate can be used as a

Effect of different zinc concentrations on partially-stabilized cement for vital pulp therapy.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: We have developed and investigated the partially-stabilized cements (PSC) with Zn for vital pulp therapy due to their short setting time and high cell biocompatibility. However, the effect of PSC with different concentrations of Zn on setting time and biocompatibility remained unknown. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the optimal concentration of Zn to be synthesized with PSC for vital pulp therapy. METHODS: PSC with different weight percentages of Zn (5%, 7%, 10%) were synthesized to attain 5%Zn-PSC, 7%Zn-PSC, and 10%Zn-PSC. The initial and final sett

Treatment options: apexogenesis and apexification.

This article will describe requirements for case selection and review the procedures for apexogenesis and apexification in immature permanent teeth. Nonclinical and clinical data will be presented to support the recommendations, and outcomes will be presented from clinical studies. The dental pulp is an ectomesenchymally derived connective tissue with certain unique properties such as being encased in hard tissues, which limits its collateral circulation. The pulp provides a matrix for binding of its cells and provides support allowing communication between the cells. In addition to immune cel

Use of mineral trioxide aggregate in the treatment of invasive cervical resorption: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Guided tissue regeneration (GTR) is a successful treatment procedure of periodontal reconstructive surgery. Adverse effects can be observed after GTR procedure, but external root resorption is rarely reported at clinical studies. Invasive cervical resorption is a clinical term used to describe a relatively uncommon, insidious, and often aggressive form of external root resorption. METHODS: The present case demonstrates an invasive cervical resorption that is a potential late complication of GTR in a maxillary canine of a 59-year-old male patient. After the surgical intervention

Endodontic and periodontal treatment of an external cervical resorption.

External root resorption can be divided into 3 categories: 1) progressive inflammatory resorption; 2) cervical resorption; and 3) replacement resorption. Cervical resorption is a not well recognized type of progressive external inflammatory resorption. It occurs after injury to the cervical attachment apparatus, mostly in the area of the cervical root surface (precementum) below the epithelial attachment. The present article describes an abnormal case of cervical resorption in a vital lateral maxillary incisor of a 27-year-old male patient. Endodontic treatment and subsequent periodontal plast
