The effects of the 5-HT(2A/2C) receptor antagonist, ketanserin, and the 5-HT(2C) receptor antagonist, SB 206553, on lordosis behavior were investigated in ovariectomized rats hormonally primed with estradiol benzoate (EB) (0.5 or 25 microg) and progesterone (500 microg). Both ketanserin and SB 206553 inhibited lordosis behavior after infusion into the ventromedial nucleus of the hypothalamus (VMN), but ketanserin was slightly more effective than the 5-HT(2C) receptor antagonist. Batrachotoxin and its derivatives have become important tools for the study of membrane excitability by virtue of their effects on voltage-sensitive sodium channels. The effect of the infusion of 2-hydroxyestrone (125 micrograms/h for 8 h) on plasma PRL levels was investigated before and 64 h after the administration of 1 mg estradiol benzoate in five patients with PRL-secreting pituitary adenomas. Denatonium is widely recognized as an intensely bitter synthetic compound used to prevent accidental ingestion of toxic or undesirable products. Here, we report the natural occurrence of denatonium in seed-derived tissues of Camellia japonica. Direct chewing of the seeds produced exceptional bitterness, consistent with LC-MS/MS detection.
