The use of ophthalmic applicator containing Strontium-90 beta ray was used to bring about a change in I.O.P. by its effect on the ciliary body. The change in I.O.P. depends on the degree of damage done to the ciliary body. The study showed that the change in I.O.P. was directly proportional to the intensity of beta rays application - higher the dose of beta radiation more was the damage and more the reduction in I.O.P.

Ciliary neurotrophic factor is the first neurotrophic factor to show survival-promoting effects in developing motor neurons in vitro, in ovo, and in vivo. In the present study we tested the effects of recombinant rat or human ciliary neurotrophic factor in the wobbler mouse model of motor neuron disease. METHODS: The clinical records of two patients who underwent enucleation for uveal melanoma and later developed regional lymph node metastases were reviewed. A 70-year-old man presented with an apparent focal iris ciliary body mass and increased intraocular pressure. Fine needle aspiration biopsy 180 degrees from the main lesion demonstrated uveal melanoma cells in the angle. The eye was enucleated, and multiple separate iris and ciliary body melanomas were noted. This case demonstrates the usefulness of fine needle aspiration biopsy for both diagnosis and optimum therapy in selected cases.
