OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate that continuos intravesical irrigation with amikacin is an effective adyuvant treatment in Emphisematous Cistitis therapy.
METHODS: A 3 way transurethral Foley catheter was placed and a continuous intravesical irrigation was initiated with amikacin 500 mg in 1L of normal saline (500 micrograms per ml) within 6 hours 4 times a day and three consecutive days.
RESULTS: After 3 days of treatment the patient showed significant clinical response. A new CT scan showed the absence of gas in the bladder wall compared to the previews CT and negative urine culture was obtained

We report a patient in whom lupus peritonitis and cystitis developed after ovulation induction therapy with human menopausal and chorionic gonadotropins followed by in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer. The lupus peritonitis and cystitis presented clinically as an acute abdomen. This disease should not be misdiagnosed as a nonspecific or infectious pelvic peritonitis, especially after oocyte retrieval.

125 patients with tuberculous and posttuberculous cystitis were examined using cytological test of the aspirate from the bladder for atypical cells and histological investigation of the biopsy. Cancer of the bladder has developed in long-term chronic tuberculous or posttuberculous cystitis in 4% of the cases. The best objective method of the diagnosis was histological examination of the biopsy obtained from cancer-suspected sites of the bladder mucosa.

We describe a case of concurrent presentation of severe haemorrhagic cystitis and acute interstitial nephritis with eventually lethal outcome, associated with the use of tiaprofenic acid (Surgam), a propionic acid-derived non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Although interstitial nephritis and haemorrhagic cystitis are caused by all types of NSAIDs, a higher incidence of interstitial nephritis and especially haemorrhagic cystitis has been described related to propionic acid derivatives. Awareness of this serious adverse effect is important.

OBJECTIVES: Bilateral urinary obstruction is usually secondary to tumors or bilateral lithiasis. A rare case of encrusted cystitis causing bilateral hydronephrosis is described.
METHODS/RESULTS: A 70-year-old woman presented with severe dysuria and vesical tenesmus. She had previously undergone pelvic surgery and received radiotherapy for a gynecological tumor. Acute hemorrhagic cystitis (AHC) is gross hematuria and symptoms of cystitis. Usually a self-limiting entity, it is found mainly in children and cancer patients receiving chemotherapy or radiation. In a small number of patients, AHC can be severe and require aggressive management.
