IoMT driven Alzheimer's prediction model empowered with transfer learning and explainable AI approach in healthcare 5.0.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder and the primary cause of dementia, responsible for 60-70% of global cases. It severely affects memory, cognitive function, and daily independence, placing a substantial emotional and economic burden on patients and caregivers. Early and accurate prediction remains difficult due to the high cost of neuroimaging, scarcity of annotated datasets, and the "black-box" nature of most artificial intelligence (AI) models. With the emergence of Healthcare 5.0, the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) offers new opportunities for patient-c

Acceptance of Illness and Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients After Myocardial Infarction-Narrative Review.

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases, particularly myocardial infarction (MI), significantly impact patients' lives, causing stress and prompting varied responses to illness. Aim and methods: We conducted a narrative review concerning the acceptance of illness and quality of life in post-MI patients. Based on an extensive search of the available literature, this review consolidates current evidence on the proposed topic. Conclusions and implications: While some patients struggle with acceptance and face emotional distress, others who accept their condition are more likely to engage in treatme

Causal effects of breastfeeding on childhood health outcomes: A Mendelian randomization analysis of mental and physical health.

Breastfeeding has been extensively documented to confer numerous health benefits. However, establishing causal relationships, particularly with respect to childhood mental and physical health, has been challenging due to confounding variables inherent in observational studies. This study leverages a Mendelian randomization (MR) approach to rigorously investigate the causal impacts of breastfeeding on various childhood health outcomes. A total of 49 single-nucleotide polymorphisms were chosen as instrumental variables after employing linkage disequilibrium screening to ensure strong association

A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Social Cognition Among People Living with HIV: Implications for Non-Social Cognition and Social Everyday Functioning.

Social cognition-the complex mental ability to perceive social stimuli and negotiate the social environment-has emerged as an important cognitive ability needed for social functioning, everyday functioning, and quality of life. Deficits in social cognition have been well documented in those with severe mental illness including schizophrenia and depression, those along the autism spectrum, and those with other brain disorders where such deficits profoundly impact everyday life. Moreover, subtle deficits in social cognition have been observed in other clinical populations, especially those that

Unreal that feels real: artificial intelligence-enhanced augmented reality for treating social and occupational dysfunction in post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety disorders.

Background: Fear- and trauma-related conditions, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and social phobia, often manifest as socially avoidant behaviours, which commonly contribute to social and occupational disability transdiagnostically. While gold-standard treatments (i.e. exposure therapy, psychotropic medications) are effective, they are hindered by high dropout rates and limited impact on real-world functioning. Furthermore, most existing interventions only target symptom reduction, with few addressing avoidance-related deficits in social and occupational functioning. Objectives: T

Behavioral phenotypes of temporal lobe epilepsy.

OBJECTIVE: To identity phenotypes of self-reported symptoms of psychopathology and their correlates in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). METHOD: 96 patients with TLE and 82 controls were administered the Symptom Checklist 90-Revised (SCL-90-R) to characterize emotional-behavioral status. The nine symptom scales of the SCL-90-R were analyzed by unsupervised machine learning techniques to identify latent TLE groups. Identified clusters were contrasted to controls to characterize their association with sociodemographic, clinical epilepsy, neuropsychological, psychiatric, and neuroimagi

Behavioral Symptoms May Correlate With the Load and Spatial Location of Tubers and With Radial Migration Lines in Tuberous Sclerosis Complex.

Objective: Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a multisystem neurocutaneous genetic disorder. The clinical manifestations are extensive and include neurological, dermatological, cardiac, ophthalmic, nephrological, and neuropsychiatric manifestations. The prediction and pathophysiology of neuropsychiatric disorders such as emotional symptoms, conduct problems, hyperactivity, and poor social behavior are poorly understood. The aim of the study was to diagnose neuropsychiatric symptoms in individuals with TSC, and to examine their possible correlations with quantity, magnitude, and spatial locati

Behavioral Modeling for Mental Health using Machine Learning Algorithms.

Mental health is an indicator of emotional, psychological and social well-being of an individual. It determines how an individual thinks, feels and handle situations. Positive mental health helps one to work productively and realize their full potential. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. Many factors contribute to mental health problems which lead to mental illness like stress, social anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, drug addiction, and personality disorders. It is becoming increasingly important to determine

Childhood adversities and psychotic symptoms: The potential mediating or moderating role of neurocognition and social cognition.

INTRODUCTION: Childhood abuse and neglect are risk factors for psychotic symptoms. Early adversities may contribute to alterations in neuro/social cognition, which in turn is associated with psychosis. This study explored the possible mediating/moderating role of neuro/social cognition between childhood abuse and neglect on the one hand, and psychotic symptoms on the other. METHOD: The sampling frame was 1.119 patients with a psychotic disorder. Childhood adversity was evaluated with the Dutch version of the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire. Psychotic symptoms were assessed with the Positive an

Hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia: a multidisciplinary approach.

Hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (HED; Christ-Siemens-Touraine syndrome) is a genetic disorder characterized by sparse hair, oligodontia with peg-shaped teeth, reduced sweating, and defects in a number of other ectodermal organs. A partial or complete absence of eccrine glands can lead to recurrent severe overheating that may cause seizures and neurological deficits. This clinical report presents a 14-year-old male patient with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia, including the clinical and radiographic findings, and multidisciplinary treatment. Childrens' learning and behaviour and the association with cheek cell polyunsaturated fatty acid levels.

Increasing interest in the role of omega-3 fatty acids in relation to neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g. ADHD, dyslexia, autism) has occurred as a consequence of some international studies highlighting this link. In particular, some studies have shown that children with ADHD may have lower concentrations of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), particularly omega-3, in their red blood cells and plasma, and that supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids may alleviate behavioural symptoms in this population. However, in order to compare levels it seems appropriate to establish fatty acid levels in

Relationship between neuropsychological and emotional functioning in severe chronic alcoholism.

Previous studies of patients with severe chronic alcoholism have shown a high prevalence of emotional distress such as anxiety and depression, and neuropsychological impairments such as executive deficits, but few have examined the relationship between these disorders. We addressed this issue in 51 abstinent patients with histories of severe chronic alcoholism utilizing the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) and the Halstead-Reitan Neuropsychological Test Battery (HRNTB). Applying factor analysis to the MMPI clinical and validity scales, we derived four dimensions accounting fo

Generational Differences in the Acceptance of Care Robots Among Portuguese Adults: Evidence from the Almere Model, ADL and IADL Frameworks.

BACKGROUND: Population ageing, increasing care demands, and rapid advances in artificial intelligence and robotics have intensified interest in care robots as potential tools to support independent living and complement human caregiving. However, the successful implementation of robotic technologies depends largely on public acceptance, which is influenced by functional, psychological, ethical, cultural, and generational factors. OBJECTIVE: This study examined generational differences in the acceptance of care robots among Portuguese adults by integrating the Almere Model of technology accept

A distinct intra-individual suppression subnetwork in the brain's default mode network across cognitive tasks.

Suppression of the brain's default mode network (DMN) during external goal-directed cognitive tasks has been consistently observed in neuroimaging studies. However, emerging insights suggest the DMN is not a monolithic "task-negative" network but is comprised of subsystems that show functional heterogeneity. Despite considerable research interest, no study has investigated the consistency of DMN activity suppression across multiple cognitive tasks within the same individuals. In this study, 85 healthy 15- to 25-year-olds completed three functional magnetic resonance imaging tasks that were des

Developing physical activity interventions for adults with spinal cord injury. Part 1: a comparison of social cognitions across actors, intenders, and nonintenders.

OBJECTIVE: This article is the first in a three-part series focused on designing theory-based interventions to increase leisure time physical activity (LTPA) in persons with spinal cord injury (SCI). The purpose of this first study was to compare social cognitions for LTPA between people classified as LTPA actors, intenders, and nonintenders, as per Schwarzer's Health Action Process Approach (HAPA) model. METHOD: Participants were 238 men and women living with a SCI (M age = 44.14, SD = 12.74; 44.5% paraplegic) who were subsequently classified as LTPA actors (n = 105), intenders (n = 73), or

Cognitive behavioural therapy for unusual experiences in children: a case series.

BACKGROUND: Over half of children in the general population report unusual or "psychotic-like" experiences (PLEs). The development of a later at-risk mental state is associated with persistent, distressing, PLEs, which are appraised negatively and hard to cope with. We have designed a novel, manualized, cognitive behavioural intervention for children aged 9 to 14 years, which aims to reduce emotional problems, improve coping and resilience, and help children manage PLEs, before an identifiable psychosis risk develops. We report on the feasibility, acceptability and clinical impact of the inter
