OBJECTIVE: To report a rare presentation of necrotizing fasciitis (NF) in the breast and its management.
CLINICAL PRESENTATION AND INTERVENTION: A 61-year-old non-diabetic lady presented with a painful swollen right breast and yellowish discharge associated with fever for the last few days. Based on clinical examination and haematological parameters, a provisional diagnosis of breast abscess was made that later proved to be a case of NF. Two cases of sudden and unexpected death due to necrotizing fasciitis are presented with a short overview of this rare disease with special reference to pathological features and causative and epidemiological factors. One case occurred as a complication of liposuction surgery, and the second presented after minor trauma. Based on the autopsy findings and an interdisciplinary approach, medico-legal evaluation provides a substantial basis for later court hearings in such cases.

Osteonecrosis of the jaw is an uncommon consequence of biphosphonate therapy. This has most commonly been a bone complication with little if any soft tissue involvement. An unusual case of necrotizing fasciitis with extensive soft tissue infection stemming from a prolonged case of osteonecrosis of the jaw presented. The management of this patient (aggressive surgical debridement and prolonged wound care) is reviewed as well as the review of the underlying processes.

INTRODUCTION: Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is an aggressive and relatively rare soft tissue infection, involving the fascia and the subcutaneous tissue, with a rapidly fatal evolution.
CASE REPORT: GE, an 8 year-old girl presented with edema and redness of the external genitalia. Twelve hours later, she became toxic while her redness extended in the abdominal wall and both upper thighs. CT of the abdomen was consistent with NF.
