BACKGROUND: Instrumented spinal fixations are an important tool in the management of traumatic conditions and delayed complications are rare.
CASE REPORT: We present a case of open reduction and fixation of traumatic C5/6 facet fracture dislocation with late complication in the form of intradural hardware migration.
CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, this is the first report of an intradural rod migration distant to the initial surgery in a patient without posterior decompression. This highlights the need for long-term follow-up of patients with spinal instrumentation.

An elderly woman was referred to hospital because of fever and deterioration of her general condition. Due to urinary retention, the woman had undergone long term catheterization and had a urinary infection for years. In addition, the partial right hip prosthesis was found to be dislocated. While changing the catheter it slipped into the renal pelvis, and the balloon of the catheter was filled at the level of the ureteropelvic junction. Replacement of the patella during total knee arthroplasty (TKA) remains controversial. Despite some attempts to establish guidelines for this procedure, there is still no consensus in the literature. A 5-year-old male presented with scrotal migration of the catheter from a ventriculoperitoneal shunt manifesting as left scrotal swelling 4 months after implantation. A 79 year old woman with bilateral hip replacements presented with severe left thigh swelling, and life threatening hypovolemic shock. After adequate resuscitation, an angio CT scan of her pelvis showed a false aneurysm of the external iliac artery in proximity to a loose pegged cemented cup. A pelvic X-ray 6 years prior to presentation had revealed a medialized high riding pegged cemented cup with a loose cemented stem. Vascular reconstruction followed by revision of the left THA was necessary.
