In vitro ovicidal and larvicidal activity of a hydroalcoholic extract and its fractions from Cyrtocarpa procera fruits on Haemonchus contortus.

This study describes the in vitro anthelmintic effect of a hydroalcoholic extract (HA-E) and its fractions from Cyrtocarpa procera fruits ag … ively. Chemical analysis of these bioactive subfractions (C1R15 and C1R17) revealed the presence of gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, and ellagic acid. This study shows evidence about the ovicidal and larvicidal properties of C. procera fruits that could make these plant products to be considered as a natural potential anthelmintic agents for controlling haem …

Chemical characterization, antioxidant and enzyme inhibitory effects of Mitracarpus hirtus extracts.

Mitracarpus hirtus (L.) DC. (Family: Rubiaceae) is a tropical annual herb commonly found in America and Mexico. In the present study, the me … showed that the dichloromethane and ethyl acetate extracts yielded the highest TPC (29.10 ± 0.07 mg gallic acid equivalent/g) and TFC (38.14 ± 0.91 mg rutin equivalent/g), respectively. Aqueous extract showed weak activity against tested enzymes but demonstrated the strongest ABTS scavenging activity (59.39 ± 1.19 mg trolox equivalent/g) and is the strongest …

New Perspectives on the Sustainable Employment of Chestnut Shells as Active Ingredient against Oral Mucositis: A First Screening.

Oral mucositis (OM), a common side effect of oncological treatment, is an oral mucosal disorder characterized by painful ulcerations and increased risk of infection. The use of natural antioxidants to suppress the redox imbalance responsible for the OM condition has emerged as an interesting approach to prevent/treat OM. This study aims to explore the chestnut (Castana sativa) shells as potential active ingredient against OM. Therefore, chestnut shells were extracted at different temperatures (110-180 °C) by Subcritical Water Extraction (SWE), aiming to recover antioxidants. The extracts were

Kinetic fingerprinting and food matrix interactions reveal the gastrointestinal behavior of polyphenolics in stir-fried green tea.

Stir-fried green tea polyphenols exhibit strong antioxidant capacity; however, they degrade rapidly during gastrointestinal transit. This study combined antioxidant kinetic profiling, chemometric analysis, simulated digestion, and Caco-2 cell permeability models to identify the principal antioxidant drivers and evaluate the protective effects of the food matrix. Ridge model identified EGCG as the primary determinant of radical-scavenging kinetics, whereas gallic acid contributed more strongly to the thermodynamic antioxidant capacity. Simulated intestinal digestion induced an antioxidant kinet…

Unveiling Solvent-Mediated Mechanochemical Cocrystallization Pathways by In Situ CLASSIC NMR Spectroscopy.

Although mechanochemical synthesis offers a sustainable way to produce solid forms of pharmaceutical compounds, the molecular-level mechanisms that govern solvent-mediated transformations remain largely unexplored. In this study, we present an in situ solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) approach to directly monitor the evolution of liquid-assisted grinding reactions under magic-angle spinning conditions. Using a modified CLASSIC NMR protocol, we tracked the cocrystallization of two model systems, theophylline-benzamide and metronidazole-gallic acid, in the presence of solvents with di…

Plinia cauliflora Leaf Extract Promotes Wound Healing Through Anti-Inflammatory, Antioxidant, and Antibacterial Actions.

Plinia cauliflora (DC.) Kausel (jabuticaba) is traditionally used by Brazilian indigenous communities for therapeutic purposes, including the treatment of wounds and inflammation. This study investigated the phytochemical composition and biological activities of an ethanolic extract derived from P. cauliflora leaves (ethanolic extract from P. cauliflora leaves [EEPC]). UHPLC-MS phytochemical analysis revealed 13 active phenolic compounds, with gallic acid being the most prevalent at 319.5 µg/mg extract. EEPC demonstrated significant antioxidant activity (IC50 = 4.42 ± 0.91 µg/mL, 2,2-diphenyl-…

LC-MS/MS analysis, antimicrobial and antioxidant potential of phenolic extracts derived from Urtica dioica leaves and roots.

This research examined the antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of phenolic compounds from Urtica dioïca, a plant widely used in traditional medicine. The total polyphenol content in the leaves and roots were 5.37mg EAG/g and 1.21 mg EAG/g, respectively, while the flavonoid content was 0.40 mg QAE/g (leaves) and 0.19 mg QAE/g (roots). Using LC-MS/MS, 22 compounds were identified in the roots and 27 in the leaves, with gallic acid and 4-methylguaiacol found predominantly in both extracts. Unique to the leaf extract were Phenylethyl Ester and 3,5-Dimethoxyphenol. The extracts were tested aga…

An ATP-activated self-cascade nanoplatform for ROS/mPTT/starvation tri-therapy through tumor microenvironment remodeling.

Iron-gallic acid chelate nanoparticles (Fe-GA NPs) have emerged as promising Fenton catalysts and drug carriers in oncology. However, their therapeutic efficacy remains constrained by tumor microenvironment (TME) limitations - suboptimal pH and insufficient endogenous hydrogen peroxide. To overcome these barriers, we engineered an ATP-responsive core-shell nanoarchitecture (GOx@Fe-GA) integrating glucose oxidase (GOx) with Fe-GA coordination networks. Upon encountering elevated ATP concentrations in tumor cells, the nanosystem undergoes programmed disassembly: released GOx depletes glucose to …
