Studies in animal models and in the glomerulonephritis of human secondary syphilis and results from in vitro assays have suggested a role for circulating immune complexes (CICs) in human secondary syphilis. OBJECTIVE: Autoimmune progesterone dermatitis (APD) is a rare hypersensitivity to high levels of progesterone, with an as-yet unknown etiology. The objective of this study is to gather epidemiological data on patients with APD at an outpatient dermatology clinic.

We report a case of "recall-like phenomenon" caused by nonionic contrast medium. A 62-year-old woman suffering from postherpetic neuralgia developed erythematous plaques 12 h after an intercostal nerve block under X-ray guidance using iohexol (Omnipaque) as contrast medium. The effects of vitamin supplementation on the age-related decline in immune function was studied in a population of elderly subjects with a high prevalence of low and deficient serum values of vitamin C, vitamin E, riboflavin and pyridoxin, as well as iron and zinc. We describe the first case of drug-induced solar urticaria due to repirinast, an antiallergic drug developed and introduced into the market in Japan in 1987. The patient was a 72-year-old woman who had been on repirinast for 1 year and 8 months. She developed urticaria immediately after an irradiation with 1.5 J/cm2 of UVA, and the provocation test confirmed that repirinast was responsible for the urticarial reaction. Four vignettes of occupational natural rubber latex (NRL) allergy are presented. Each had contact urticaria, 2 of 4 had systemic symptoms, 3 were allergic to cross-reacting fruit, and 2 had pollen and tree allergy. Recent information on latex cross-reactivity with fruit and pollen is discussed along with an update on latex radioallergosorbent tests and control of NRL allergy.

BACKGROUND: Adverse drug reactions to local anesthetics are frequently reported. However, little is known about the underlying mechanisms. Therefore we investigated 177 patients with a history of 197 events after application of these drugs.
METHODS: The diagnostic approach included prick and intracutaneous tests, provocative challenge tests with causative and unrelated local anesthetics, and in selected cases, radioimmunoassays to detect specific IgE. The sensitizing capacity of Centella asiatica (raw extract) and its triterpenic constituents asiaticoside, asiatic acid and madecassic acid has been studied in guinea pigs. The extract itself as well as the 3 acids were found to be very weak sensitizers. Centella asiatica extract is used effectively in the treatment of keloids, leg ulcers, phlebitis, slow-healing wounds, leprosy, surgical lesions, striae distensae and cellulitis. Although applied frequently to damaged skin, the risk of acquiring contact sensitivity to this plant or its constituents is low.

Acute reaction to food allergens is a fairly common problem that is often seen in the allergist's office, its incidence being specially high in childhood. Milk and eggs are the most common sensitizing foods, but usually the type of food allergens responsible for these reactions varies according to food habits in different countries. Legumes occupy an important role in the Spanish diet, being responsible for a large number of allergic reactions. It has been shown that legumes occupy the fourth place in importance among the food allergens, inducing hypersensitivity reactions in Spanish children.

A case of a severe anaphylactic reaction in a 30 year old man after 2 ml of 1% lidocaine injected subcutaneously is reported.
