Ascariasis is an important and prevalent geo-helminth infection, especially in underdeveloped countries such as Afghanistan, where public health problems and devastation of hygienic infrastructures usually lead to the higher incidence of the infection. OBJECTIVES: Various drainage methods have been used for unresectable malignant hilar biliary obstruction (MHBO). However, controlling cholangitis and obstructive jaundice is still challenging. We performed a phase I/II study of endoscopic ultrasound-guided hepaticogastrostomy (EUS-HGS) as primary drainage for MHBO.
METHODS: This prospective Phase I/II study included 20 patients requiring biliary drainage for MHBO recruited from June 2021 to December 2023. The primary endpoint was safety. The secondary endpoints were clinical efficacy, reintervention methods, and frequency.

OBJECTIVE: In order to study patients with a diagnosis of xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis (XGC), we analyzed their demographics, epidemiology and clinical data.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We analyzed the clinical records of XGC during a period of 6 years, obtaining demographic, epidemiologic and clinical data.
RESULTS: Of a total of 1425 cholecystectomies performed between January 1991 and December 1996, we found 35 cases of XGC (2.4%). Twenty six (74%) were women (median age: 44 years), 60% were from a low socioeconomic group, 34% has a history of alcoholism and smoking, and 25 patients (71%)

Biliary obstruction is a serious condition that can occur in the setting of both benign and malignant pathologies. Common bile duct cyst, or choledochal cyst is known to be an uncommon cause of neonatal jaundice. It is usually associated with distal biliary tract obstruction and presents a clinical picture that is indistinguishable from biliary atresia. We report two cases of neonatal choledochal cyst encountered from 1992 to 1994. The infants were free from perinatal insult and presented with prolonged jaundice. A 5-year-old girl presented with abdominal pain, intermittent jaundice and a gall bladder lump. Clinical examination and preoperative imaging suggested the diagnosis of a type I choledochal cyst (CDC). During surgery, this was found to be a hydatid cyst (HC) occupying the head of pancreas causing obstruction to the common bile duct (CBD). A pancreatic HC mimicking a CDC and presenting with CBD obstruction is unusual.
