Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) type III is a inherited connective tissue disorders characterized by extensibility of the skin, hypermobility of the joints, chronic pain, tissue fragility, easy bruising, and delayed wound healing with result of atrophic scars. The patients report commonly a history of recurrent dislocations of the shoulders and knees after low-impact trauma, chronic joint pain, and early osteoarthritis, which lead to diagnosis. The pathogenesis of this condition is unknown, and the diagnosis is generally made in adult age, based only on clinical criteria. In this report, we descr

Nail-patella syndrome is a rare dysplasia characterized by a typical tetrad: hypoplasic nails, hypoplasic or absent patella, radial head dislocation and iliac horns. We review eight patients, four men and four women, aged from 20 to 70 years. The main complaint at consultation was with their knees due to patellar instability and pain. Five of them required surgical treatment due to patellar dislocation and three patients were not treated. The Krogius-Lecène procedure was performed in four patients with a good result following the Insall classification of pain and instability and with an averag

The Slocum and Larson's surgical repair of the laterally dislocating patella is described. The results of 32 operations are discussed, follow-up-time was one to four years. 25 patients have no problems and have full activity in sports. Two patients have femoropatellar pain in the operated and two in the non-operated knee joint; so they had no normal athletic activity but they had no subluxation pain. One patient had a recent traumatic dislocation of the patella in landing a backward salto. We have obtained good results by the method of Slocum and Larson compared with various techniques of tran

In the international scientific literature, MRI is reported to identify anterior cruciate ligament tears with high diagnostic accuracy (80-95%). In this prospective analysis, 274 MR examinations of the knee were performed to develop a method to measure even slight sagittal dislocation of the tibia relative to the femur as a predictor of an anterior cruciate ligament tear. Ninety-eight patients presented a healthy anterior cruciate ligament and were therefore considered as a control group. In 92 cases, a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament was observed; in 78 cases the injury was pa

INTRODUCTION: the recurrent dislocation of the patella is a condition in which the congruence of the surface of the patella is not maintained in its displacement on the intercondyleal groove of the femur in the flexo-extension movements of the knee. The objectives of the study are: to show the distribution of patients with recurrent dislocation of patella according to different socio-demographic variables and to evaluate the results with the use of campbell's technique.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: An observational study was conducted in patients with recurrent patella dislocation in the period from

The medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) is one of the important structures that maintains patellar stability during knee flexion and extension. For patients with patellar dislocation, timely surgical reconstruction of the MPFL can reduce the risk of patellofemoral joint degeneration. Different methods of MPFL reconstruction have been reported in the literature. However, complications such as patellar fracture, postoperative foreign body stimulation, and fixation failure caused by inappropriate graft tension are common clinical problems. Therefore, on the basis of physiological anatomy, we pr

BACKGROUND: The objective of this study was to examine the characteristics of medical malpractice claims related to major joint dislocation cases.
METHODS: Our database was used in the study to analyze major dislocation cases involving medical malpractice that were closed between 2018 and 2024. A complete and detailed dataset was collected for each case. This included information such as patients' demographics (age and sex), the specific anatomical location of the dislocation (ankle, knee, hip, wrist, elbow, shoulder, and acromioclavicular joint), the underlying cause of the dislocation, rati

OBJECTIVE: Restoration of a functionally intact and stable medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL).
INDICATIONS: a) Persistent patellofemoral instability following patellar dislocation with rupture of the MPFL; b) failure of conservative therapy following patellar dislocation; c) partial step: recurrent patellar dislocations with treatment of risk factors leading to dislocation (e.g., trochlear dysplasia, patella alta) by means of, for example, deepening trochleoplasty or tuberosity osteotomy; d) isolated: traumatic patellar dislocations with no or only minor risk factors; e) no age limits.

BACKGROUND: A large number of surgical techniques have been proposed for the treatment of recurrent patellar dislocation in adolescents, one of the most famous being Galeazzi's semitendinosus tenodesis as modified by Baker. The aim of this study was to verify the mid-term results of this technique, the effectiveness of restoring the patellofemoral congruency, by both static and dynamic computed tomography (CT), and to determine whether the preoperative type of patellofemoral relationship affects the results.
METHODS: The study included 14 patients (16 knees), with a mean age of 11.6 years, Ta

Deficiency of carbohydrate sulfotransferase 3 (CHST3; also known as chondroitin-6-sulfotransferase) has been reported in a single kindred so far and in association with a phenotype of severe chondrodysplasia with progressive spinal involvement. We report eight CHST3 mutations in six unrelated individuals who presented at birth with congenital joint dislocations. These patients had been given a diagnosis of either Larsen syndrome (three individuals) or humero-spinal dysostosis (three individuals), and their clinical features included congenital dislocation of the knees, elbow joint dysplasia wi

Arthroscopy : the journal of arthroscopic & related surgery : official publication of the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the International Arthroscopy Association1988eng
Twenty-nine patients treated with arthroscopy alone for acute patellar dislocation were reviewed. All had a significant traumatic episode with hemarthrosis in a previously asymptomatic knee. Clinical follow-up averaged 25 months (range 5-64 months). Fifteen patients had concomitant percutaneous lateral release (LR). Significant-sized osteochondral defects not radiographically visible preoperatively were discovered in 40%. Fragments were excised and corresponding craters debrided or abraded. Additional intraarticular pathology discovered included two meniscal tears and one anterior cruciate tea

The population-based incidence and risk factors for knee injuries in young adults were assessed in Finnish male conscripts performing their compulsory military service (n = 128,584). The main outcome variables were (1) hospitalization due to knee injuries overall and (2) hospitalization due to knee disorders as categorized into specific International Classification of Diseases, tenth revision diagnoses (cruciate and collateral ligament tears, meniscal tears, traumatic chondral lesions, and patellar dislocations). Person-time injury-incidence rates were calculated by dividing the number of pers

A girl with the characteristic abnormalities of Larsen's syndrome is presented. A soft flabby consistence of the cartilaginous skeleton of the larynx and trachea was thought to be the cause of attacks of respiratory failure which suddenly caused her death at the age of 9 months. Microscopy revealed a considerably reduced number of elastic fibres in the larynx, trachea and bronchi. Closed reduction of the knee dislocation by skin traction seemed to be successful.

We report a female infant with congenital dislocation of the knee and dysmorphic features including a prominent forehead, midface hypoplasia, and micrognathia. Fluorescence in situ hybridisation and PCR amplification of microsatellite repeats were used to show that she had a de novo unbalanced translocation resulting in partial trisomy for 16q and partial monosomy for 15q (46,XX, -15, tder(15)t(15;16)(q26.1;q22). The consequences of partial aneuploidy of 16q are discussed.

Nail-patella syndrome is a rare genetic condition that affects multiple organ systems and can lead to small or irregularly shaped patellae. Such irregular patellae can be of particular interest to orthopaedic practice because the small size can commonly lead to patella dislocation. Although the patient was initially evaluated for a medial meniscus tear, his underlying condition of nail-patella syndrome was found with incidental radiographs. The radiographic and MRI findings show hypoplastic patellae bilaterally with no dislocation or subluxation but with a medial meniscus tear. In this case re

Congenital dislocation of the subtalar joint is one of the rarest forms of presentation of a calcaneo-valgus foot. We report the second case of this type published; an 18-month female child aged was seen with calcaneo-valgus deformity of left foot since birth. She was walking over the medial malleolus and medial border of foot. Radiographs and 3D CT scan of the left foot confirmed the diagnosis of a congenital subtalar dislocation. Surgical correction was achieved through a posterolateral incision, and the reduced joint was fixed with a k-wires for 6 weeks; the foot was immobilized in below kn
