Rhabdomyolysis: a review of imaging features across modalities.

This review illustrates the imaging features of rhabdomyolysis across multiple modalities and in a variety of clinical scenarios. Rhabdomyolysis is the rapid breakdown of striated muscle following severe or prolonged insult resulting in the release of myocyte constituents into circulation. In turn, patients develop characteristically elevated serum creatine kinase, positive urine myoglobin, and other serum and urine laboratory derangements. While there is a spectrum of clinical symptoms, the classic presentation has been described as muscular pain, weakness, and dark urine. This triad, however

[Peripheral Neuropathy and Myopathy Associated with COVID-19].

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and its associated coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were reported to originate from Wuhan, China, in December 2019, spreading rapidly worldwide. With the emergence of this pandemic, an increasing number of cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) have been reported following this infection. Most patients had a demyelinating subtype of GBS. The time interval between infectious and neuropathic symptoms, absence of cerebrospinal fluid pleocytosis, and negative polymerase chain reaction test result support a postinfectious mechanism. Blood Flow Restricted Electrical Stimulations to Prevent or Attenuate Symptoms of Muscle Damage.

The objective of this study was to determine if performing electrical stimulations (E-STIM) under blood flow restriction (BFR) would result in a greater protective effect against symptoms of muscle damage. 18 individuals (9 females) completed a damaging bout of exercise followed by a low frequency E-STIM treatment protocol on both arms, one of which was completed under BFR. The treatment protocol was then repeated 24-hours post-exercise. There were main effects of time for muscle thickness (pre: 3.5 cm; 48 h post: 3.8 cm; BF10 = 88.476), discomfort (pre: 0.0 au; 48 h post: 4.2 au; BF10 = 241.9

The Effect of Theta Burst Stimulation Over the Primary Motor Cortex on Experimental Hamstring Pain: A Randomized, Controlled Study.

Theta burst stimulation (TBS) over the primary motor cortex (M1) is an emerging technique that may have utility in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain. However, previous work exploring the analgesic effects of noninvasive brain stimulation has been limited largely to the arm or hand, despite 80% of acute musculoskeletal injuries occurring in the lower limb. This is a pertinent point, given the functional and neurophysiological differences between upper and lower limb musculature, as well as evidence suggesting that reorganization of corticomotor pathways is region-specific. This study invest

Risk factors for musculoskeletal disorders among takeaway riders: Up-to-date evidence in Shanghai, China.

BACKGROUND: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are common occupational diseases. However, the influencing mechanisms were not clear in the new emerging takeaway rider occupation in the catering industry in China. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a takeaway rider sample from one of the largest e-platforms, the Mei Tuan Company in Shanghai. The chi-square test was used to compare the sex differences in MSDs according to various factors. Binary logistic regressions were then performed to explore the potential risk factors for the occurrence and severity of MSDs adjusted by age,

Does perceived wellness influence technical-tactical match performance? A study in youth international rugby using partial least squares correlation analysis.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between matchday wellness status and a technical-tactical performance construct during rugby match-play. One hundred and thirty-three male rugby union players (73 forwards and 60 backs) from five under-18 national squads who participated in the under-18 Six Nations competition completed a subjective wellness questionnaire on each matchday morning. Players subjectively rated each item (sleep quality, fatigue, muscle soreness, stress and mood) on a five-point Likert scale to calculate their daily wellness status (i.e. difference between

Even mild catastrophic thinking is related to pain intensity in individuals with painful temporomandibular disorders.

AIMS: Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are often associated with psychological comorbidities. One such comorbidity is pain catastrophising, that is, exaggeration of negative consequences of a painful event. The aim was to investigate catastrophising in individuals with painful TMD compared to controls and the association between catastrophising and pain intensity, number of pain sites and functional limitations. METHODS: A community-based sample of 110 individuals (83 women; 20-69 yrs) with painful TMDs (myalgia/arthralgia as per Diagnostic Criteria for TMD) and 190 age- and gender-matched c…

Network Analysis of Symptoms Co-Occurrence in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a heterogenous disorder of multiple disabling symptoms with complex manifestations. Network analysis is a statistical and interrogative methodology to investigate the prevalence of symptoms (nodes) and their inter-dependent (inter-nodal) relationships. In the present study, we explored the co-occurrence of symptoms in a cohort of Polish CFS patients using network analysis. A total of 110 patients with CFS were examined (75 females). The mean age of the total sample was 37.93 (8.5) years old while the mean duration of symptoms in years was 4.4 (4). Post-exertio

Treatment of Masticatory Muscle Pain with Acupuncture: Is It Necessary to Associate with Occlusal Splints?

BACKGROUND: Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) are treated by different modalities including splints, physiotherapy, and acupuncture. Although all of these offer evidencebased benefits to the patients, avoiding overtreatment is of paramount importance. OBJECTIVES: To assess the effectiveness of muscle pain treatment with acupuncture combined with or without occlusal splints. METHODS: Recruited patients were allocated to G1 (acupuncture) and G2 (acupuncture and occlusal splint) groups and treated in four consecutive weekly sessions (P1, P2, P3, and P4). The reported pain (RP) and the pressure
