Assessment of women's sexual health using a holistic, patient-centered approach.

Sexual health problems are common in women and have the potential to affect all aspects of their lives. These issues can include diminished or lack of desire for sex, difficulty with arousal and sexual pleasure, inability to orgasm, and pain with sex. Causes of sexual health issues can be complex and multifaceted; therefore, a holistic perspective, in which all potential factors are considered, is warranted. Despite the prevalence of women's sexual health issues, discussion by providers is often absent or limited to avoidance of sexually transmitted infections or unwanted pregnancies. Health c

Parents' actions, challenges, and needs while enabling participation of children with a physical disability: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric rehabilitation considers Family-centered service (FCS) as a way to increase participation of children with a physical disability in daily life. An important principal is that parents greatly contribute to their child's participation at school, at home, and in the community. However, it is unclear what kind of information is available from literature about what parents actually do to support their child's participation and what problems and needs they experience? Hence, the aim of this study was to provide an overview of the actions, challenges, and needs of parents in ena

["Proportion of contact"--an alternative attempt to estimate health care needs].

The Swedish Health and Medical Care Act declares that health and medical care should be planned according to the needs of the population. Assessments of health care needs should begin with the total need of health care for any given population since the different forms of health care are dependent on each other. In Sweden, information on utilisation of care could estimate immediate short term health care needs. Individual self-perceived ill health is a reasonable basis for measures of health care needs, allowing for the fact that individuals often are in contact with several different forms of

European criteria for the appropriateness and necessity of coronary revascularization procedures.

OBJECTIVES: Large variations in the use of coronary revascularization procedures have led many countries to apply the RAND appropriateness method to develop specific criteria describing patients who should be offered these procedures. The method is based on the work of a multidisciplinary expert panel that reviews a synthesis of the scientific evidence and rates the appropriateness of a comprehensive list of indications for the procedure being studied. Previous studies, however, have all involved single-country panels. We tested the feasibility of carrying out a multinational panel to rate the

Tuberous sclerosis: how to recognise this challenging disorder.

Tuberous sclerosis is a multi-system genetic disorder affecting up to one in 6000 newborn infants. It is about one third as common as cystic fibrosis, and half as common as Duchennes muscular dystrophy, yet many doctors and health professionals are ill-acquainted with the condition. Parents who turn to medical text books for information find only a brief mention of a few, frequently out-dated facts. Antonia Clarke and John Osborne describe the symptoms of the disorder and the special needs of affected children and their families.

Patient assessment and selection for pulmonary rehabilitation.

Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is beneficial for people with several forms of chronic respiratory disease. Given the existing limitations on availability of PR services, it is important to identify participants who are most likely to benefit from it. Identification of criteria for patient referral to PR is challenging, as chronic respiratory diseases and their medical and psychosocial co-morbidities place a complex and multifaceted burden on patients. Although research studies have attempted to identify key parameters predictive of 'responsiveness to PR', to date no firm physiological, psychoso

Usefulness of the BRIEF-Multidimensional Prognostic Index (BRIEF-MPI) to identify older adults' healthcare needs to be addressed with a Personalized Prevention Program in general practice: preliminary data from the PrimaCare_P3 study.

BACKGROUND: In Europe around 40% of people aged ≥ 65 years are affected by multiple non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs). The Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) showed its usefulness in early identifying healthcare needs of older people with NCDs to develop a care plan to meet these needs. PrimaCare_P3 study aims at assessing healthcare needs of older people referring to their general practitioners (GPs) to plan a personalised prevention programme (PPP) based on the results of the CGA-based short version of the Multidimensional Prognostic Index (BRIEF-MPI). METHODS: 612 participants

Targeted literature review of current treatments and unmet need in moderate rheumatoid arthritis in the United Kingdom.

OBJECTIVES: The burden and treatment landscape of RA is poorly understood. This research aimed to identify evidence on quality of life, caregiver burden, economic burden, treatment patterns and clinical outcomes for patients with moderate RA in the United Kingdom. METHODS: A systematic literature review was performed across multiple databases and screened against pre-defined inclusion criteria. RESULTS: A total of 2610 records were screened; seven studies presenting evidence for moderate RA were included. These patients were found to incur substantial burden, with moderate to severe levels o

Hypertension and Epistaxis: Why Is There Limited Guidance in the Nosebleed Clinical Practice Guidelines?

Hypertension has long been thought to influence the risk and severity of epistaxis. However, evaluation of the relevant literature reveals articles with methodologic concerns or limited quality. In many instances, these studies are not adequately controlled, and lack of multivariate analyses calls into question any noted association between epistaxis and hypertension. The goal of this commentary is to explain why there is limited guidance about the management of hypertension and the possible association with nosebleed in the 2020 American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Foundat

[Supportive care needs in patients with incurable cancer: Results of an integrative data analysis].

INTRODUCTION: Patients with incurable cancer face complex care demands that extend beyond medical treatment and give rise to diverse supportive care needs. A systematic assessment of these needs is essential for identifying gaps in care and informing appropriate interventions. Despite their relevance, such analyses are scarce in the German healthcare context, particularly those integrating multiple need dimensions and patient perspectives. METHODS: The study addressed the research question: "Which unmet supportive care needs do patients with incurable cancer experience in the context of their
