A 14-year-old female patient presented to the Department of Ophthalmology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiangnan University with a 3-year history of blurred vision while wearing single-vision spectacles for bilateral myopia. The patient demonstrated satisfactory corrected visual acuity, rapid myopia progression, no manifest strabismus, and well-preserved fusional function and stereopsis; therefore, orthokeratology was administered. Grade 2 central corneal staining developed at one month. Lens parameters were adjusted to optimize the fitting: the power of the alignment curve was reduced by

Punctuate Outer Retinal Toxoplasmosis (PORT) is a rare variant of toxoplasma chorioretinitis. We report the case of a 21-year-old patient presenting with visual blur of the left eye (LE). The examination found a corrected visual acuity (VA) at 3/10th, a quit anterior segment and a 1+ vitreous haze. Fundus examination showed a suprafoveolar yellowish-white lesions associated to multiple peripheral atrophic and pigmented ones. Visual acuity of the right eye was 10/10th with a calm anterior segment. Fundus examination depicted an upper temporal cicatricial pigmented lesion. Multimodal imaging of

A 38-year-old patient presented to us with complaints of blurred vision and photophobia in the left eye with an uncorrected visual acuity of 20/400, improving to 20/60 with pinhole. The patient underwent phakic iris-claw lens surgery 15 years ago for high myopia. On examination, there was anterior chamber rigid phakic iris-claw lens along with complicated cataract. We planned for sutureless self-sealing 6.5 mm sclerocorneal tunnel for explantation of rigid phakic iris-claw lens along with cataract extraction with irrigating vectis. There was postoperative reduction in astigmatism due to incisi

BACKGROUND: Pituitary apoplexy is a rare clinical emergency which results from hemorrhage or infarction in the pituitary gland.
PATIENT: We present a 14-year-old girl with pituitary apoplexy and review the literature.
RESULTS: Our patient experienced blurred vision, nausea, and headache. Her best-corrected visual acuity was 20/200 and 20/20. Confrontation test visual field testing revealed bitemporal hemianopsia. Brain imaging demonstrated a suprasellar mass. The microscopic endonasal transsphenoidal approach only found 5-10 mL brownish fluid-like material. Pathology confirmed no malignancy.

A 51-year-old man presented with a 3 month history of progressive right visual loss. On examination, the only abnormal findings were a right visual acuity of 4/10 and a swollen right optic disc. The patient had previously undergone MRI that had been reported as being normal and a trial of corticosteroids under the care of the referring ophthalmologist. An extensive battery of blood tests was normal apart from a rapid plasmatic reagin titre of 1:64. ELISA revealed elevated levels of total and immunoglobulin M antibodies against Treponema pallidum. Cerebrospinal fluid analysis revealed a mild le

Bee stings of the cornea are rarely reported, but have the potential for causing serious ophthalmological injuries. We present a case of corneal bee sting with retained stinger apparatus. A 35-year-old patient presented with an acute, corneal bee sting of the right eye 12 hours after he was stung. The patient suffered from pain, blurred vision, and epiphora. The right eye showed edema of the upper and lower eyelid, conjunctival hyperemia, chemosis, and striate keratitis of the paracentral cornea by biomicroscopic examination. The stinger was identified in the depth of the corneal infiltration.

BACKGROUND: Patients with retinal diseases frequently complain of poor visual function even when visual acuity is relatively unaffected. This clinical finding has been attributed to deficits in contrast sensitivity (CS). The purpose of our study was to evaluate the CS in patients with clinical and genetic diagnosis of inherited retinal degeneration (IRD) and relatively preserved visual acuity.
METHODS: Seventeen patients (30 eyes) with IRD and visual acuity of 20/40 or better, and 18 controls (18 eyes) without any ocular condition underwent slit lamp examination, visual acuity testing via sta

Older adults who present as low-acuity falls requiring mobilization assistance, commonly referred to as a "lift assist", represent a common reason for EMS activation. These encounters often involve underlying medical conditions or injuries that are not immediately apparent, and missed or delayed diagnosis is associated with adverse outcomes. At the same time, some patients are transported to the emergency department when it is not necessary, exposing them to potential harms and contributing to increased healthcare utilization. These encounters are therefore complex clinical presentations and r
