OBJECTIVE To determine the proportion of yearling beef bulls classified as satisfactory potential breeders when reevaluated after failing an initial breeding soundness evaluation (BSE) and identify any factors at initial BSE that predicted satisfactory performance at reevaluation. DESIGN Retrospective observational study. ANIMALS 2,064 beef bulls between 11 and 14 months of age at first BSE, evaluated from 2006 to 2014. PROCEDURES For each bull, data on age (categorized by month), breed, and BSE findings were extracted from the medical records. Bulls were classified as satisfactory potential b

External snapping hip(ESH) is a vague term used to describe palpable or auditory snapping with hip movements with or without pain. The pathogenesis of ESH is related to the specific anatomical structure and friction factor. The clinical symptom is auditory snapping during activities, physical examination, X-ray, magnetic resonance imaging(MRI), dynamic ultrasound and other imaging techniques can be used to diagnose. Conservative medical management includes rest, avoidance of aggravating activities, and antiinflammatory medications. Treatment Patients with mild symptoms can achieve good results…

Genitourinary tract injuries account for 3 to 10% of trauma patients, and scrotal trauma is particularly prevalent in males 10 to 30 years of age. Prompt diagnosis and timely surgical intervention are essential to prevent future complications of infertility, delayed orchiectomy, infection, and testicular atrophy. While clinical examination provides valuable information, it may be inconclusive due to soft tissue swelling and difficult to perform due to testicular pain with palpation. Conversely, testicular rupture does not always present with pain or tenderness. Imaging can contribute additiona

Child abuse and neglect occur in epidemic numbers in the United States and around the world, resulting in major physical and mental health consequences for abused children in the present and future. A vast amount of information is available on the signs and symptoms and short- and long-term consequences of abuse. A limited number of instruments have been empirically developed to screen for child abuse, with most focused on physical abuse in the context of the emergency department, which have been found to be minimally effective and lacking rigor. This literature review focuses on physical, sex

PURPOSE: To update the evidence on the clinical features of the piriformis syndrome since the first systematic review published in 2010.
METHOD: A systematic review of all case, cross-sectional and prevalence studies.
RESULTS: The commonest features reported were: buttock pain, pain aggravated on sitting, external tenderness near the greater sciatic notch and pain on any maneuver that increases piriformis muscle tension, and limitation of straight leg raising. The quality of case reports since the previous review has not improved with considerable under-reporting of presumed negative tests.

Flatfoot (pes planus) is common in infants and children and often resolves by adolescence. Thus, flatfoot is described as physiologic because it is usually flexible, painless, and of no functional consequence. In rare instances, flatfoot can become painful or rigid, which may be a sign of underlying foot pathology, including arthritis or tarsal coalition. Despite its prevalence, there is no standard definition for pediatric flatfoot. Furthermore, there are no large, prospective studies that compare the natural history of idiopathic, flexible flat feet throughout development in response to vari

Nail lines are a common presenting finding. A thorough inspection of the fingernails and toenails is an integral part of the complete physical examination. An understanding of basic nail anatomy and familiarity with several basic types of nail line enable the clinician to diagnose and treat nail disorders and to recognize underlying systemic diseases, as each type of nail line has a particular differential diagnosis. The authors review leukonychia striata (white lines), longitudinal melanonychia (brown-black lines), longitudinal erythronychia (red lines), and nail-plate grooves (Beau lines).

Clinical diagnostic tests objectively evaluate lower extremity ailments of the athlete. The positive squeeze test is found to be reproducible for ankle syndesmotic injury but is a poor prognosticator. The anterior drawer and talar tilt tests assess lateral ankle sprains. These have limitations secondary to positioning and guarding by the athlete, so comparison with the asymptomatic extremity is recommended. The Ottawa ankle rules assess possible fractures of the ankle and midfoot. The Thompson test evaluates Achilles tendon tears, whereas the windlass technique and the modified Lachman test ex

Trochanteric bursitis, also known as "greater trochanter pain syndrome", is a frequent and often under-diagnosed cause of pain in the lateral hip region. The diagnosis is essentially based on the clinical examination; however various forms of imaging may be useful to confirm the diagnosis and particularly to ex- clude other aetiologies. The different therapeutic options include non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, physiotherapy, local injections of cortisone and local anaesthetic, and extra-corporeal shock wave therapy. Surgical intervention is only indicated in rare cases.

A previously healthy 6-month-old boy presented to the pediatric dermatology clinic for evaluation of a persistent, pruritic eruption. This eruption involved the scalp, extremities, and inguinal creases and was intensely pruritic. The patient had been previously treated with multiple topical corticosteroids and antifungals, all with minimal improvement. He born at full term and was otherwise well and thriving. Review of systems was negative. Examination revealed erythematous to yellow scaly, greasy plaques, some with underlying purpuric papules in the frontal, temporal, and vertex of the scalp,

Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) encompasses a spectrum of physical and imaging findings. The child's hip will not develop normally if it remains unstable and anatomically abnormal by walking age. Therefore, careful physical examination of all infants to diagnosis and treat significant DDH is critical to provide the best possible functional outcome. Regardless of the practice setting, all health professionals who care for newborns and infants should be trained to evaluate the infant hip for instability and to provide appropriate and early conservative treatment or referral.

INTRODUCTION: Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a chronic disease that causes pain and fatigue, presenting a negative impact on quality of life. Exercise helps maintaining physical fitness and influences directly on the improvement of quality of life.
OBJECTIVE: Develop a protocol for health-related physical fitness assessment of patients with FMS with tests that are feasible and appropriate for this population.
METHOD: An exploratory and analytical literature review was performed, seeking to determine the tests used by the scientific community. With this in mind, we performed a literature revi
