Albinism is a large group of disorders characterized by a loss of pigment in ectoderm-derived tissues - most noticeably impacting the skin, hair, and eyes. Albinism is categorized as either syndromic or non-syndromic. Syndromic albinisms include a wide range of disorders with mutations impacting not just pigmentation but other cellular functions. These include, non-exclusively, melanogenesis disorders, endosome trafficking disorders like lysosomal storage disorders, and cell migration disorders. Mutations leading to syndromic albinisms can cause multi-organ system symptoms due to broad disrupt

Pigmented purpuric dermatoses (PPD) encompass a group of chronic skin conditions characterized by the presence of petechiae, purpura, and pigmentation changes. While generally benign, these dermatoses can be persistent and aesthetically bothersome. Key clinical features include red to brownish patches with a distinctive "cayenne pepper" appearance, predominantly localized on the lower extremities, particularly the shins. Subtypes include Schamberg disease, Majocchi's disease, Gougerot-Blum disease, Ducas and Kapetanakis pigmented purpura, and lichen aureus. Diagnosis relies primarily on clinic

BACKGROUND: Acral speckled hypomelanosis is a very rare pigmentation disorder that appears early in life with hypopigmented macules on background of normal skin, occurring on the acral parts.
CASE REPORT: We report a 9-year-old female patient with a 3-year duration of progressive, hypopigmented, confetti-like macules occurring symmetrically on the dorsum of both hands and feet. Biopsy showed normal number of melanocytes with no evidence of macromelanosomes using special stains for melanocytes.
CONCLUSION: Acral speckled hypomelanosis is a relatively, recently, discovered entity, with only 9

Many animals have polka dot patterns on their body surface, some of which are known to have signalling functions; however, their evolutionary origins remain unclear. Dot patterns can trigger a fear response (trypophobia) in humans and are known to function as aposematic signals in non-human animals, suggesting that dots may deserve attention for biological reasons. Interestingly in many birds, plumage dot patterns serve for social/sexual signalling. To understand their evolution, we have focused on the sensory bias hypothesis, which predicts the role of pre-existing sensory preference driven b

Pigmented purpuric dermatosis (PPD) is a group of skin disorders characterized by red, brown, or golden macules and patches with cayenne pepper-like spots. Classic histopathologic features include a perivascular lymphocytic infiltrate with associated erythrocyte extravasation and hemosiderin deposition. Although PPD most commonly affects the lower extremities, upper extremity involvement has been infrequently reported. Cases involving the hands are particularly rare. We present 6 new cases of PPD involving the hand and review 17 previously reported cases in the literature. All cases in our ser

Cutaneous disease can often be an initial clue of an underlying cardiovascular disease. Many congenital conditions (ie, Noonan syndrome with multiple lentigines, Carney complex, and Fabry disease) and acquired conditions may present initially with specific cutaneous features that should prompt clinicians to conduct a full cardiac workup. Given the extensive number of conditions with both cardiovascular and cutaneous findings, this review will focus on diseases with cardiocutaneous pathology with hopes of raising clinician awareness of these associations to decrease morbidity and mortality, as
