Evaluation of short-course for private doctors in managing children tuberculosis as part of a public-private mix in Surabaya, Indonesia.

This study aimed to improve the private doctor's role in discovering and managing cases of childhood tuberculosis (TB) according to the Directly Observed Treatment Short-course program. This quasi-experimental study with a pre-post design described 75 private doctors (intervention group) who assisted over two months in finding suspected TB children and 75 private doctors (control group). This study used descriptive quantitative data analysis. Sixty-three of the 75 doctors (84%) attended a course to assist suspected tuberculosis children with a moderate level of knowledge (60.0%). Most suspecte

Impacts of Federal Prevention Funding on Reported Gonorrhea and Chlamydia Rates.

INTRODUCTION: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention allocates funds annually to jurisdictions nationwide for sexually transmitted infection prevention activities. The objective of this study was to assess the effectiveness of federal sexually transmitted infection prevention funding for reducing rates of reported sexually transmitted infections. METHODS: In 2017-2018, finite distributed lag regression models were estimated to assess the impact of sexually transmitted infection prevention funding (in 2016 dollars per capita) on reported chlamydia rates from 2000 to 2016 and reported g

A Game-Theoretic Model of Cholera with Optimal Personal Protection Strategies.

Cholera is an acute gastro-intestinal infection that affects millions of people throughout the world each year, primarily but not exclusively in developing countries. Because of its public health ramifications, considerable mathematical attention has been paid to the disease. Here we consider one neglected aspect of combating cholera: personal participation in anti-cholera interventions. We construct a game-theoretic model of cholera in which individuals choose whether to participate in either vaccination or clean water consumption programs under assumed costs. We find that relying upon indivi

[Semmelweis Memorial Speech on the 150. Anniversary of His Death].

Two questions emerge as regards Semmelweis's reception and public memory: 1. How and why could turn Semmelweis into an emblematic representative of 19th-20th century science and medicine? 2. What sort of values and ideals does the fate of Semmelweis represent for us? Author calls our attention to the fact, that in Semmelweis's case, not only his discoveries and thought proved to be of abiding value, but during the last 120 years also his fate inspired a number of scientific, popular, non fictional and fictional analysis all over the world. Semmelweis, as a mythic representative of the modern "

Health promotion policy in Sweden: means and methods in intersectoral action.

In Sweden different commissions have been working on legislation, prevention programmes and financing, and have aimed at implementing the Health For All strategy at national level. National programmes for cardiovascular diseases, cancer, accidental injuries, etc were established by parliamentary resolution in 1985. The role of health education has been extended: from the earlier concern with matters of individual lifestyle the focus has shifted towards motivating the community as a whole to take an active interest in its health. There is good public support in the areas of legislation, knowled

[Good coordination practices in community health. SESPAS Report 2026].

Community health is currently a key pillar of public health for reducing inequalities, improving quality of life, and ensuring responses tailored to local needs. However, depending on the context, discipline, or location, different perspectives are adopted, sometimes leading to heterogeneous practices and varied approaches that hinder intersectoral work and effective coordination in community health. This coordination involves co-designing interventions adapted to the social, cultural, and economic characteristics of each community, prioritizing prevention and equity, and incorporating a gende

Structural Racism, the Social Determination of Health, and Health Inequities: The Intersecting Impacts of Housing and Mass Incarceration.

Public health researchers have directed increasing attention to structural racism and its implications for health equity. The conceptualization of racism as historically rooted in systems, structures, and institutions of US society has important implications for addressing social determinants of health (SDOH). It requires theorizing SDOH as embedded in and expressions of racially oppressive historical structures that are manifested in and maintained by policies, programs, and practices in multiple domains that dynamically intersect to reinforce and reproduce in new ways: race inequities in hea

Knowledge, attitudes, and practices relevant to zoonotic disease reporting and infection prevention practices among veterinarians - Arizona, 2015.

Veterinarians play a crucial role in zoonotic disease detection in animals and prevention of disease transmission; reporting these zoonoses to public health officials is an important first step to protect human and animal health. Evidence suggests veterinarians and their staff are at higher risk for exposure to zoonoses because of possible interactions with infected animals. We examined the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of veterinarians regarding zoonotic disease reporting to public health agencies and associated infection prevention (IP) practices such as personal protective equipment (

A qualitative study of HIV testing and referral practices of private hospital doctors treating patients with TB in Chennai, India.

Clinical Nursing for Climate Justice and Planetary Health.

Climate change reflects social, political, and ecological harms that shape clinical care and health inequities. This article offers a justice-oriented, public health-informed framework for clinical nursing practice, showing how climate-related exposures and structural vulnerability appear in patient presentations, care transitions, and recovery. Drawing on structural competency, Cultural Safety, planetary health ethics, and the Global Nurse Agenda for Climate Justice, the article illustrates how nurses can integrate environmental assessment, advocacy, and system stewardship into routine care.

The health needs of children in public care: the results of an audit of immunizations of children in care.

An immunization audit was conducted to assess the health status of children in public care in the boroughs of Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland. The audit found that children in public care have lower immunization rates and more incomplete schedules than the local population. Obtaining health data about these children can be problematic. For purposes of accuracy, it is important to refer to all the child's health records. Some children who were initially thought to have incomplete schedules had completed their immunizations, whereas others who were thought to be up to date had incomplete sc

Towards a justice-based reimagination of digital health research and innovation: actionable considerations for learning health systems.

The need to embed decolonising methodologies in health-care practice has been recognised globally. The term decolonising health, which has become a topic of increasing public and academic discourse since 2021, refers to the dismantling of colonial systems of dominance and oppression ingrained within health systems and structures. Despite the growing recognition of the need for decolonisation in broader health research and practice, the application of a decolonial lens to the rapidly evolving field of digital health remains largely underexplored. An active commitment to decolonisation should be

Implementation of a health care policy: an analysis of barriers and facilitators to practice change.

BACKGROUND: Governments often create policies that rely on implementation by arms length organizations and require practice changes on the part of different segments of the health care system without understanding the differences in and complexities of these agencies. In 2000, in response to publicity about the shortening length of postpartum hospital stay, the Ontario government created a universal program offering up to a 60-hour postpartum stay and a public health follow-up to mothers and newborn infants. The purpose of this paper is to examine how a health policy initiative was implemented
