Transcending Language Barriers: Can ChatGPT Be the Key to Enhancing Multilingual Accessibility in Health Care?

OBJECTIVE: To explore the capabilities of Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer (ChatGPT) for the purpose of simplifying and translating radiology reports into Spanish, Hindi, and Russian languages, with comparisons to its performance in simplifying to the English language. METHODS: Fifty deidentified abdomen-pelvis CT reports were fed to ChatGPT (4.0), instructing it to simplify and translate the report. The processed reports were rated on factual correctness (category 1), potential harmful errors (category 2), completeness (category 3), and explanation of medical terms (category 4). The t

Contrast Agent Administration as a Source of Liability: A Legal Database Analysis.

Background Radiology ranks high in terms of specialties implicated in medical malpractice claims. While most radiologists understand the risks of liability for missed findings or lapses of communication, liability for the use of contrast agents in imaging procedures may be underappreciated. Purpose To review the clinical context and outcomes of lawsuits alleging medical malpractice for contrast-related imaging procedures. Materials and Methods Two large U.S. legal databases were queried using the terms "Contrast" and "Radiology OR Radiologist" from database inception to October 31, 2022, to id

Isolated thoracic and lumbar transverse process fractures: Do they need spine surgeon evaluation? a high volume level I trauma center experience with cost analysis.

BACKGROUND: Transverse process fractures (TPF) of the thoracic and lumbar spine have become increasingly identified due to CT imaging. Spine service consultation is common for further evaluation and management. There are several studies that demonstrate no difference in clinical outcome with or without spine service intervention. However, no study to our knowledge provides an additional cost analysis. We hypothesize that isolated thoracolumbar TPF are stable injuries. Furthermore, spine service consultation and evaluation results in increased health care costs. METHODS: Patients were identifi

Patient-Reported Outcome Measures and Radiological Outcomes in Mobile-Bearing Total Ankle Arthroplasty With Varus or Valgus Deformity.

BACKGROUND: There is increasing evidence that varus deformity does not negatively affect total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) outcomes, but there is a sparsity of evidence for valgus deformity. We present our outcomes using a mobile-bearing prosthesis for neutral, varus, and valgus ankles. METHODS: This is a retrospective cohort study of consecutive cases identified from a local joint registry. In total, 230 cases were classified based on preoperative radiographs as neutral (152 cases), varus greater than 10 degrees (60 cases), or valgus greater than 10 degrees (18 cases). Tibiotalar angle was agai

Effect of symptomatic pseudomeningocele on improvement in pain, disability, and quality of life following suboccipital decompression for adult Chiari malformation type I.

OBJECT: Suboccipital decompression is a common procedure for patients with Chiari malformation Type I (CMI). Published studies have reported complication rates ranging from 3% to 40%, with pseudomeningocele being one of the most common complications. To date, there are no studies assessing the effect of this complication on long-term outcome. Therefore, the authors set out to assess the effect of symptomatic pseudomeningocele on patient outcomes following suboccipital decompression for CM-I. METHODS: The study comprised 50 adult patients with CM-I who underwent suboccipital craniectomy and C-

Practice guidelines for the implementation of a quality program in thromboprophylaxis and treatment management in patients with venous thromboembolic disease.

BACKGROUND: Venous thromboembolic disease is a major cause of morbidity and hospital mortality worldwide. Although exact figures are unknown in Mexico, achieving uniformity of criteria among the specialties involved in the prophylaxis and treatment will offer a clearer picture and contribute to a more rational and interdisciplinary approach in order to improve the quality of care for patients and increase the level of awareness of this entity. DISCUSSION: For the preparation of this document, a total of 11 medical specialists from Mexico City and the interior of the country met along with a h

Diagnosing Tuberculosis Infection: From the Host to the Pathogen.

Tuberculosis (TB) continues to pose a significant global health challenge. An estimated quarter of the world's population has a TB infection (TBI) with an immune response to Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) without clinical, microbiological, or radiological signs of TB disease. Individuals with TBI have a lifelong risk of reactivation, leading to TB disease in 5%-10% of cases during a lifetime. Current diagnostic tools, including interferon-γ release assays and skin tests, are endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO) for identifying TBI and guiding preventive therapy. This paper outline

Silicone Migration from Intact Saline Breast Implants.

Breast augmentation is a widely performed surgical procedure worldwide, predominantly using silicone gel-filled implants. Concerns have primarily revolved around ruptures and the potential health risks associated with leaked silicone from silicone gel-filled implants. Cases of silicone migration from the shell of saline breast implants remain scarce. This case report introduces a unique case of a 66-year-old patient with silicone migration from intact saline breast implants. The patient presented with a range of symptoms consistent with breast implant illness. Radiological findings suggested t

Possible evidence for care and treatment in the Tyrolean Iceman.

The Tyrolean Iceman is the world's oldest glacier mummy. He was found in September 1991 in the Italian part of the Ötztal Alps. Since his discovery a variety of morphological, radiological and molecular analyses have been performed that revealed detailed insights into his state of health. Despite the various pathological conditions found in the Iceman, little is known about possible forms of care and treatment during the Copper Age in Northern Italy. A possible approach to this topic is the presence of tattoos on the mummified body. In previous work, it was already believed that the tattoos we

[Charcot foot masked by erysipelas and peripheral arterial disease].

Charcot foot is also known as Charcot disease or Charcot arthropathy. The associated aseptic destruction of the bones and joints of the foot results due to peripheral neuropathy accompanied by impaired pain perception, impaired vasomotricity with increased vasodilation, and an unequal weight distribution. Because it is frequently diagnosed late and, thus, incorrectly treated, serious complications often result. An 86-year-old man in poor health was diagnosed with erysipelas of the right foot. The foot was glossy and edematously swollen, showing necrosis of the distal phalanx of the third toe.

[Juvenile idiopathic arthritis and oral health].

Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most common autoimmune inflammatory disease of connective tissue in children. It is characterized by progressive joint destruction which causes preserved changes in the musculoskeletal system. The literature describes fully clinical symptoms and radiological images in different subtypes of JIA. However, there is still a limited number of studies reporting on the medical condition of the oral cavity of ill children. JIA can affect hard and soft tissues of the oral cavity by: the general condition of the child's health, arthritis of the upper limbs, as

Patient evaluation in idiopathic scoliosis: Radiographic assessment, trunk deformity and back asymmetry.

Progressive adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) produces specific signs and symptoms, including trunk and spinal deformity and imbalance, impairment of breathing function, pain, progression during adult life, and psychological problems, as a whole resulting in an alteration of the health-related quality of life. A scoliosis-specific rehabilitation program attempts to prevent, improve, or minimize these signs and symptoms by using exercises and braces as the main tools in the rehabilitation treatment. Patient evaluation is an essential point in the decision-making process and determines the s
