This study reported the photophysics of 7-(diethylamino)coumarin-3-carboxylic acid N-succinimidyl ester (7-DCCAE) in different neat solvents of varying polarity using steady-state absorption, fluorescence emission and picosecond time-resolved spectroscopy. Isothermal gas-liquid equilibrium (GLE) data were determined for dilute SO2 in a triethylene glycol (TEG) + water (W) system (TEGW) at 298.15 K and 123.15 kPa, in which SO2 partial pressures were calculated in the range 0-130 Pa. A facile assay method for the highly sensitive and selective sensing of biothiols based on graphene quantum dots (GQDs) has been developed. GQDs emitted strong blue fluorescence in an aqueous buffer solution. It was observed that mercury(II) ions could efficiently bind and quench the fluorescence of the GQDs. An on-line retention and preconcentration system based on a sheep wool-packed microcolumn combined with flame atomic absorption spectrometry is proposed for trace level determination of Cd in wine. In this work, a new copolymer synthesized in our laboratory is used as physically adsorbed coating for capillary electrophoresis (CE). Pulsed laser resonant photoacoustic spectroscopy was applied for detection of highly toxic SO(2) with 266 nm as the excitation source. An extra-cavity longitudinal resonant cell, was designed and fabricated to enhance the sensitivity of the system, which is capable of detecting the trace amount of SO(2). The interaction of the VO2+ cation with the sodium salt of 2,3-dimercapto-1-propanesulfonic acid (DMPS) was investigated by electron absorption spectroscopy in aqueous solution, in the pH range between 4 and 12. The spectral behavior points to the generation of a [VO(DMPS)2](4-) complex in which the oxocation interacts with two pairs of deprotonated -SH groups of the ligand. By spectrophotometric monitoring it was found that DMPS rapidly reduces vanadates(V) to VO2+ which may be chelated by an excess of the acid. The structural dynamics of the ring-opening reaction in a photochromic indolylfulgimide, a reversible, ultrafast photoswitch, is investigated by ultra-broadband time-resolved vibrational spectroscopy. The experimentally observed vibrational modes of the indolylfulgimide photoisomers C and E are assigned to normal modes with the help of DFT calculations. A complete evaluation of the observed vibrational dynamics including excited-state vibrational modes is used to characterize the reaction path and the cooling behavior of the photoswitch.

Owing to the indiscriminate reactivity of the free NO radical, intricate control mechanisms are required for storage, transport and transfer of NO to its various biological targets. Among the proposed storage components are protein-bound thionitrosyls (Rprotein-SNO) and protein-bound dinitrosyl iron complexes. The tautomerism and dimerization of 4(3H)-pyrimidinone (4(3H)Pyr) in carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) and chloroform (CHCl3) solutions were investigated using IR spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations. The IR and Raman spectra of methyl salicylate (MS) were recorded and analysed. Surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectrum was recorded in silver colloid. The vibrational wave numbers of the compound have been computed using the Hartree-Fock/6-31G* basis and compared with the experimental values. SERS studies suggest a flat orientation of the molecule at the metal surface.
