p63 is a master switch in the complex network of signaling pathways controlling the establishment and maintenance of stratified epithelia. Ebf1 is a transcription factor essential for B cell fate specification and function and important for the development of olfactory sensory neurons. We show here that Ebf1 also plays an important role in regulating osteoblast and adipocyte development in vivo. Rsf-1 protein is a member of a chromatin-remodeling complex that plays an important role in regulating gene expression and cell proliferation. AIMS: Family history of breast carcinoma, multicentric tumor foci in one breast, and in situ lobular carcinoma increase the risk of bilateral breast cancer (BBC), synchronous or metachronous. Synchronous tumors are designated as simultaneous breast carcinoma if they appear at the same time. The CD44 family and cadherin/catenin immunophenotype of this group of BBCs has not yet been evaluated. The aim of this study was to compare clinicopathological characteristics and immunohistochemical profiles of simultaneous BBC and corresponding lymph node metastases in eight patients.

Cannabinoid receptors are known to be expressed in microglia; however, their involvement in specific aspects of microglial immune function has not been demonstrated. Teratogenic causes of holoprosencephaly are critically assessed. A brief general review of holoprosencephaly is followed by four tables summarizing etiologic factors. Subjects evaluated here include: 1) maternal diabetes; 2) ethyl alcohol; 3) retinoic acid; 4) mutated genes and teratogens involving the sonic hedgehog signaling network and cholesterol biosynthesis; and 5) cholesterol trafficking, sterol adducts, target tissue response, and sterol sensing domain.

The study of left-right axis malformations in man and mouse has greatly advanced understanding of the mechanisms regulating vertebrate left-right axis formation. Recently, the roles of the TGF-beta family, Sonic hedgehog and fibroblast growth factor signaling, homeobox genes, and cilia in left-right axis determination have been more clearly defined. The identification of genes and environmental factors affecting left-right axis formation has important implications for understanding human laterality defects.

BACKGROUND: Potato common scab, a devastating soil-borne disease caused by Streptomyces scabies and other pathogenic Streptomyces species. Resistant cultivar Longshu 27 and susceptible Longshu 20 were used. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) with direct antibacterial activity in potato tubers were identified and screened through HS-SPME-GC-MS and in vitro antibacterial assays. BACKGROUND: We report a case of apparent mother-child ABO group noninheritance. A Caucasian mother initially typed as group O and her infant group AB. Investigation ruled out preanalytical causes such as mislabeled samples and in vitro fertilization.
