AIMS: The present study was designed to find the agreement between Tuberculin Skin Test and interferon gamma assay test in detecting latent tuberculosis infection in household contacts of sputum culture positive tuberculosis cases.
SETTING: Department of Community Medicine, Christian Medical College, Vellore.
METHODS: One hundred and fifty household contacts of sputum culture positive tuberculosis cases were tested with both the methods simultaneously and actual as well as kappa agreement was determined.

We report a case of metastatic abscesses caused by a chronic form of brucellosis in a shepherd. When she was admitted the patient was cachectic with haematological signs of phlogosis. OBJECTIVE: Compare the QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube (QFT) assay and the tuberculin skin test (TST) in bladder cancer patients receiving high dose BCG therapy (BCG patients).
DESIGN AND METHODS: BCG patients and healthy visitors, both exposed to tuberculosis, were screened with a TST and QFT.
RESULTS: QFT-TST correlation was excellent in visitors, but poor in BCG patients. BCG therapy predicted a positive TST (p<0.001) but not a positive QFT (p=0.35).
DISCUSSION: The management of BCG patients was impacted, by measuring the QFT.

The diagnosis of musculoskeletal tuberculous infection remains a challenge to clinicians and requires a high index of suspicion. The combination of indolent onset of symptoms, positive tuberculin skin test, and compatible radiographic findings strongly suggest the diagnosis. TB, however, must be confirmed by positive culture or histologic proof from the aspiration of synovial fluid or biopsy of the bone or synovium. Prompt diagnosis and treatment of skeletal TB are important to prevent serious bone and joint destruction and severe neurologic sequelae in the case of spinal involvement.

The main objective of this study is to determine the prevalence of positive and anergic tuberculin skin test (ppd) in a rheumatoid arthritis cohort of patients (RA) and assess the association among ppd results and clinical and treatment variables.
