The histological and immunohistochemical features of 13 cases of suspected vaginal fibroepithelial polyps are reported. The characteristic microscopical features of these lesions were an abundant oedematous or fibrous stroma containing spindle-shaped and stellate cells and the presence of variable inflammation and haemorrhage. We present the case of a 63-year-old patient who was hospitalized for pain and loss of vision in the right eye (RE). Clinical examination reveals a conjunctival tumor of 1.5/1 cm infiltrating the cornea and sclera. Biopsy and histopathological examination showed the existence of a spinocellular carcinoma.

Squamous cell carcinoma in situ (CIS) involving mesonephric remnants of the uterine cervix is a very rare lesion, the existence of which is still controversial. A second case of this lesion is reported. It was found in a cone biopsy specimen from an 40-year-old patient. Besides, in surface epithelium and within cervical glands, a structure of CIS was seen in conjunction with mesonephric tubules in deeper cervical stroma. A 28-year-old man had a circumscribed hypertrichotic area on the left lumbar region since birth. A biopsy specimen showed numerous normal-appearing hair follicles and arrector pili muscles. In the subcutaneous layer a mass of dense collagenous connective tissue formed the background in which ill-defined foci of meningothelial cells in nests and pseudovascular spaces were seen. Collagenous structures (pseudopsammoma bodies), some of which showed calcification (psammoma bodies), were also seen. A diagnosis of cutaneous meningioma was made.

The case of a 43-year-old man with an unusual mesenchymal tumor of the cauda equina is presented. A well-circumscribed firm tumor was found in the lower spinal canal at L1 level. Although a nerve root was involved, the adjacent dura mater or filum terminale was unrelated to the tumor. A 7-month-old boy had a giant pigmented lesion involving the trunk and thighs that exhibited many hyperpigmented hairy and verrucous nevi. One of the nevi ulcerated and on histological examination consisted of pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma cells that stained for muscle-specific actin (HHF-35), desmin, and myoglobin. Around the tumor, in the dermis, benign pigmented nevus cells were observed. The occurrence of malignant tumors, other than malignant melanoma, in pigmented nevi is rarely described.

Squamous metaplasia in the breast is well documented. However, the putative cell of origin for the squamous epithelium is not clear. This paper describes a case of fibroadenoma of the breast with myoepithelial hyperplasia and squamous metaplasia. The histological finding of transition between myoepithelial cells and squamous cells and the immunohistochemical expressions of actin and S-100 in the metaplastic squamous cells support the myoepithelial origin of squamous epithelium in the breast.

Serum specimens from 35 patients with polymyalgia rheumatica and giant cell arteritis (PMR/GCA) were obtained sequentially at variable time intervals up to a year from onset of disease. The expression of markers associated with epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and extracellular matrix degradation in human uveal melanoma tissue samples and postequatorial zone of the choroid was assessed by immunohistochemical staining. We present a 27-year-old male patient with neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2), facial palsy, and lagophthalmos following acoustic neuroma removal and an impressing vascularized corneal tumor, which was excised. Histology showed a fibrous tumor with small vessels, and immunohistochemistry was positive for vimentin and negative for smooth muscle actin, S100, and GFAP. We assume a corneal myofibroma (keloid), which in this case rather represents a reactive lesion. This entity has not been described before in NF2 or in facial palsy-associated lagophthalmos in general.

A 21-yr-old female jaguar (Panthera onca) died in a zoo in Teresina, Piaui, Brazil, following a history of abdominal distension, ascites, anorexia, and dyspnea. At necropsy, a dark red, watery, blood-tinged serous fluid was present in the abdominal cavity. The peritoneum was thick with firm, yellow, villous projections. Histologically, the tumors were composed of a biphasic population of cells, which reacted to anti-cytokeratin and anti-vimentin antibodies, consistent with a biphasic benign mesothelioma of peritoneal origin. This is the first reported case of mesothelioma in a captive jaguar.

A case of gallbladder malignant melanoma in a 62-year-old woman is reported. The gallbladder, resected for tumor mass seen on ultrasound examination, revealed neoplastic epithelioid cells with dark granules in the cytoplasm. These cells with pigment were positive immunohistochemically for S-100, HMB45 and vimentin. The patient, affected by dysplastic nevus syndrome, had a history of a melanoma in situ in her left upper arm that was excised 11 years ago. This is only the second case reported to date of primary malignant melanoma in dysplastic nevus syndrome.

A case of hemangiopericytoma-like tumour (HPCLT) of the nasal cavity is described in a 81-year-old woman. The tumour, accompanied by symptoms of nasal obstruction and epistaxis, presented as a polypoid lesion filling the left middle meatus region.
