PURPOSE: To detect and characterise visual field (VF) defects using static Octopus perimetry in patients with primary congenital glaucoma (PCG) and to determine VF quality and time duration.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Eighty-eight eyes of 70 patients diagnosed with PCG were included. SIGNIFICANCE: Cycloplegia is often restricted in screening settings. Previous studies have evaluated noncycloplegic refraction for screening, but their data are not fully applicable to school-aged African children. OBJECTIVE: To test the effects of corrective spectacles in hyperopic amblyopic children with heterophoria.
METHODS: Visual acuity, refraction and the amount of heterophoria on near (33 cm) fixation were measured before and after 3 weeks of spectacle-wearing in 30 hyperopic amblyopic children with heterophoria. The control group consisted of 20 emmetropic children age-matched to the patients.

Relatively few studies have reported on the repeatability of heterophoria (phoria) measurement procedures. The purpose of this study was to assess the inter-examiner repeatability of seven clinical tests of phoria measurement, using correlational and mean difference analyses. BACKGROUND: Previous studies suggest differences in the fixation disparity curves obtained with the Sheedy Disparometer and the Wesson Fixation Disparity Card, the two most commonly used methods for measuring fixation disparity. A series of cards each containing a two dimensional array of identical Snellen "E's" was used to determine best eccentric visual acuity in patients with macular disease having Snellen visual acuity of 20/70 or worse.
