This study was aimed to determine the effectiveness of two ethnobotanically important plant species Carissa opaca and Toona ciliata against cancer cells. Antiproliferative activity of the plant extracts and their fractions was tested against MCF-7 breast cancer cell line using MTT assay. A concentration dependent inhibition was observed for both crude extracts. C. opaca crude extract showed 78.5% inhibition while T. ciliata showed 57% activity against cancer cells at 500 μg/mL. Stromal vascular fraction is a heterogeneous cell population with significant regenerative potential harvested from adipose tissue. Its cells stimulate angiogenesis, have anti-apoptotic and anti-inflammatory effects, stimulate cell growth and differentiation. This review highlights the mechanisms of action, as well as possibilities and results of local application of stromal vascular fraction in lower limb ischemia. Artificial blood substitutes (ABS) containing the surfactant Pluronic F68 (F68) are reported to be cytotoxic to cell lines. Because of F68's reported impairment of granulocyte function, it was hypothesized that F68 was also responsible for the cytotoxicity of ABS, possibly as a result of a separable fraction of the F68, separation of which could be achieved using supercritical fluid fractionation (SFF). Newly developed serological methods for the detection of pili in the passive hemagglutination (PHA) test with the use of immunoglobulin erythrocytic diagnosticum and in the enzyme immunoassay (EIA) with the use of specific immunoglobulins labeled with horse radish peroxidase have been found to exceed the method of detecting pili, based on the determination of their hemagglutinating activity, in sensitivity and specificity. Besides, the PHA test and EIA have proved to be capable of detecting low molecular fragments of pili, obtained by sonication and having lost their hemagglutinating activity.
