By reviewing the recent articles regarding the ocular side effect of tamoxifen when treating breast cancer and glioma, this article summarized the incidence and the potential mechanism of the side effects of tamoxifen, and the specific ocular toxicity including keratopathy, cataract, retinopathy, optic neuropathy. This review would provide guidance for clinical ophthalmologists to early identify and appropriately manage tamoxifen induced ocular diseases. (Chin J Ophthalmol, 2021, 57: 232-236).

Nerve injury associated with dentoalveolar surgery is a complication contributing to the altered sensation of the lower lip, chin, buccal gingivae, and tongue. This surgery-related sensory defect is a morbid postoperative outcome. Several risk factors have been proposed. This article reviews the incidence of trigeminal nerve injury, presurgical risk assessment, classification, and surgical coronectomy versus conventional extraction as an approach to prevent neurosensory damage associated with dentoalveolar surgery.

A female patient with mild mental retardation with spatial perceptual difficulties, microcephaly, depressed nasal root, receding chin, webbed neck, low hairline, shield chest, cubitus valgus, scoliosis and dermatoglyphic findings not characteristic of Down's syndrome is reported. In addition to X/XXX, she had a partial trisomy 21 of the short arm-centromere-proximal long arm segment due to maternal t(12;21) translocation. Two phenotypically normal siblings carried the balanced translocation.

As the popularity and acceptance of facial and cervical rejuvenation procedures grows, surgeons are increasingly encountering patients with less favorable anatomical characteristics for rhytidectomy. These patients will typically display an obtuse cervicomental angle, underprojected chin, excess cervical adiposity, and platysmal banding, in addition to ptotic submandibular glands, tenacious jowls, and prejowl volume deficits. Recognition of these problems and the correct application of available techniques to address the difficult neck in facelifting are critical in maximizing success.

OBJECTIVE: Presentation of a case of perioral Frey syndrome.
DESIGN: Case report.
SUBJECT: A 72-year-old woman with hyperhidrosis around the mouth and chin.
RESULTS: This patient suffered from bilateral perioral gustatory sweating following a mandibular osteotomy; such a case has not previously been described. Possible pathophysiological hypotheses are discussed in relation to the anatomy and innervation of the salivary glands.
CONCLUSION: Perioral gustatory sweating is a rare complication of osteotomy.

Congenital infiltrating lipomatosis of the face (CILF) is a rare disorder, causing unilateral facial asymmetry characterized by enlargement of the cheek or chin. Hemimegalencephaly is a unique malformation characterized by enlargement of a cerebral hemisphere. The association of CILF and hemimegalencephaly has rarely been reported. We present a case of unilateral facial swelling in a 1.5-year-old boy in whom magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography revealed CILF associated with unilateral megalencephaly.

Merkersson-Rosenthal syndrome (MRS) is characterized by cheilitis or pareitis granulomatosa, facial palsy, and fissured tongue. Sometimes the forehead, eyelids and chin are involved, and occasionally genital lesions are present. A vulval lesion of MRS is named vulvitis granulomatosa. Tranilast has been described as an effective treatment for cases of MRS, granulomatous cheilitis, and granulomatous blepharitis. Herein we report a successful treatment with tranilast of an adult female patient with vulvitis granulomatosa.

Trigeminal neuralgia is an idiopathic disorder of unilateral facial pain that is characterized by lancinating paroxysms of pain in the lips, gums, cheek, or chin. Pain in trigeminal neuralgia is associated with physical triggers. Much of the treatment has been unchanged for more than 10 years, with cabamazepine being the standard first-line treatment. There are several promising new medications available, such as pimozide, tizanidine hydrochloride, and topical capsaicin. Surgical management is also effective.

Median cleft deformities of the lower lip and mandible are very rare congenital anomalies. Our patient had median cleft of the lower lip, mandible, and the chin with tongue duplication, ankyloglossia, and cleft strap muscles with 2 neck contracture bands. This anomaly was associated with congenital heart disease transposition of great vessels, large ventricular septal defect, and severe pulmonary stenosis. Early repair was done at 6 months to improve feeding.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: poliosis is an inherited or acquired loss of pigment from a group of closely positioned hair follicles characterized by a patch of white hair. It is commonly seen in vitiligo, piebaldism, Waardenburg syndrome, Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome, Griscelli syndrome, and Apert syndrome. We investigated a male manifesting poliosis on the chin after repetitive plucking.
CONCLUSION: to our knowledge, poliosis induced by repeated plucking has never been documented.

Pilomatricoma is usually a solitary subcutaneous nodule. Recurrence of the nodule after surgical excision is very rare. Pilomatricoma occurrence in patients with growth hormone (GH) deficiency has not been reported, yet. We report a 14-year-old boy with pilomatricoma and panhypopituitarism. After GH therapy had been started, we observed two relapses of previously completely excised pilomatricoma in the same location and a new pilomatricoma formation on the chin.

Ectopic eruption of teeth into regions other than the oral cavity is rare although there have been reports of teeth in the nasal septum, mandibular condyle, coronoid process, palate, chin, and maxillary sinus. Occasionally, a tooth may erupt in the maxillary sinus and present with local sinonasal symptoms attributed to chronic sinusitis. We present a case of an ectopic maxillary third molar tooth that caused chronic sinusitis in the maxillary sinus.

We report two new cases with interstitial deletions of chromosome 3. Both had breakpoints established as q12q21. Despite an apparently identical abnormal karyotype, their phenotypes were different although hypotonia, severe developmental delay, lack of speech, high arched palate and pointed chin were common features. One patient had corpus callosum agenesis (ACC), also present in two of the only four previously reported cases with a deletion in this region.

The authors present a case of a 29-year-old female patient with a recurrent submental abscess formation after chin augmentation with highly reticulated hyaluronic acid filler. We evaluate the possible cause of this complication and the result after clinical management with ultrasound-guided injection of hyaluronidase. We highlight the prevention, assessment and treatment with real-time imaging of hyaluronidase injection in the affected area, as a predictable approach for both the patient and the physician.

Tracheal resections for benign and malignant disease are well described. The addition of release procedures, including suprathyroid and suprahyoid laryngeal release, has increased the capability of extended tracheal resection and primary reconstruction. Constant neck flexion by a suture between the skin of the point of the chin and midline of the chest over the manubrium is also widely considered paramount to successful tracheal resections. We designed a straightforward alternative to this method for patient comfort and compliance.
