A newly modified endoillumination probe using the Ocutome handle has been developed that has 2.5 times more total light output and over four times more light intensity than the conventional endoillumination probe. The new probe is particularly useful in situations where there is extremely dense vitreous hemorrhage and when one requires additional light for 16-mm cinematography.

The authors present an intravascular polymeric resin injection method for scanning electron microscopy of iris and ciliary body vasculature. We performed argon and krypton laser photocoagulation of the retina and ciliary body on rabbit and monkey eyes using an exolaser probe. Clinically, transscleral retinal lesions produced a white circumscribed reaction. Histologically, we observed necrosis of the retina and choroid. 3H-befunolol was administered intravenously to pigmented rabbits. Thirty minutes after the administration, the iris, ciliary body and retina were fixed, embedded and processed for light microscopic radioautography. Radioautographical silver grains were observed over the pigment granules of the iris, ciliary body, choroid and retina. From these results it is concluded that 3H-befunolol is incorporated into the pigment granules of these cells. The mechanism of incorporation is discussed.

The proposed role of melatonin as an endogenously synthesized modulator of intraocular pressure in the eye was investigated.
