Serum samples from 47 men with current condylomas, 32 men with a history of condylomas and from 205 men with no history of genital wart disease, who were attending sexually transmitted disease (STD) clinics at two different hospitals in Stockholm, were analyzed for the presence of immunoglobulin G (IgG) and A (IgA) antibodies to capsids of human papillomavirus types 6 and 11. PURPOSE: This study was undertaken to review the literature regarding the current therapy for recurrent and extensive anal warts.
METHODS: The available treatments for condyloma acuminatum are reviewed with particular regard to their efficacy for recurrent or extensive anal lesions. Topical agents, surgical methods, and the use of interferon are discussed. Treatment of anal warts in the immunocompromised patient is also addressed.
CONCLUSIONS: Although small lesions may be responsive to repeated applications of topical agents, more extensive lesions require surgical or combination treatment.

OBJECTIVE: Twenty cases of men treated with the neodymium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser for meatal and/or urethral condyloma over five years were reviewed.
METHOD: All patients underwent Nd:YAG laser treatment of visible lesions as outpatients under general anesthesia using the visual urethrotome sheath and 0 degree lens. Follow-up urethroscopy was performed at three-month intervals. Cure of the gross disease was defined as negative findings on two sequential follow-up urethroscopies.

This article presents the spectrum of genital wart infection, including possible subclinical infection and reinfection from partners. Present therapy is effective in warts of recent onset but usually requires multiple treatments and is painful, and warts are frequently recurrent. Condyloma acuminata from 12 women were examined for the presence of human papillomavirus DNA. Six of the women had HPV 6a, two had HPV 11a, one had a new HPV 6 subtype, and one a new HPV 11 subtype.
