Dupilumab, a monoclonal antibody blocking interleukin-4/interleukin-13 signaling, was associated with neuroinflammatory syndromes in 4 children treated for atopic dermatitis. Individuals exhibited behavioral changes, language impairment, and neurodiagnostic abnormalities 2-6 months after treatment initiation. Three improved with drug discontinuation and immunomodulatory therapy; 1 with pre-existing X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy required stem cell transplantation.

Maternal alcohol use is a modifiable, yet significant public health concern, causing fetal alcohol syndrome and neurodevelopmental disorders. Research has predominantly focused on the neurodevelopmental consequences of maternal alcohol consumption, but growing evidence suggests that these effects may extend to the developing immune system, potentially increasing the risk of allergic and inflammatory conditions such as atopic dermatitis in offspring, which remains underexplored. This scoping review aims to map the available literature on the association between maternal alcohol exposure (precon

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder modulated by complex interactions between immune dysregulation and compromised skin-barrier integrity, in which the gut microbiome may play a role in the natural course of the disease. Therefore, by influencing the composition of the gut microbiome, one of the effective therapeutic options for AD treatment may include probiotics. To extend our knowledge of probiotics and how gut microbiome may affect disease evolution, this exploratory study assessed the systemic effects of a 90-day probiotic supplementation in AD patients, integra

Inflammatory skin diseases, including psoriasis and atopic dermatitis (AD), are distinguished by their chronic nature, high rates of recurrence, and intricate immune mechanisms, severely compromising patients' physical and mental health. The stratum corneum's innate barrier property contributes to the low bioavailability of conventional topical formulations, while prolonged systemic administration entails substantial systemic toxicity concerns. There is an urgent clinical need for novel therapeutic strategies that balance high transdermal efficacy with safety. The Drug Delivery Systems (DDS) o

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease often exaggerated by sun exposure, whereas sun-exposed regions are usually spared from psoriasis. Opsin 3 (OPN3), a photoreceptor, has been implicated in nonvisual functions of the skin including skin pigmentation and barrier restoration. However, whether OPN3 engages in light-induced inflammation of AD remains unclear.
OBJECTIVE: We sought to explore the role and mechanism of OPN3 in light-induced exaggeration of AD.
METHODS: The expression of OPN3 was assessed by reverse transcription quantitative PCR, western

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common inflammatory skin condition characterized by erythema and intense pruritus. A key pathway implicated in its pathogenesis is the Janus kinase (JAK)/signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) signaling pathway. Upadacitinib, a JAK inhibitor, has been approved for the treatment of moderate-to-severe AD. This review evaluates the long-term safety and efficacy of upadacitinib in AD, incorporating findings from the Measure Up 1 and Measure Up 2 phase 3 studies.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common inflammatory skin condition. Emerging evidence indicates that alterations in the cutaneous expression of the antimicrobial peptide cathelicidin contribute to AD pathogenesis, including weakened skin barrier (SB) function, and Staphylococcus aureus (SA) colonization. Cathelicidin expression is vitamin D (VD)-dependent and low VD, highly prevalent in AD populations, may impede cathelicidin induction. This review investigates the pathophysiological mechanisms linking cathelicidin expression with SB function and SA colonization/infection, and the impact of VD as

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that typically begins in infancy and extends into adulthood in a small proportion of cases. Around 20% of children and 5% of adults worldwide suffer from atopic dermatitis. In Ethiopia, the majority of data related to atopic dermatitis comes from single-health facility studies. Various sets of diagnostic criteria including United Kingdom Working Party's, American Academy of dermatology, and Hanifin and Rajika diagnostic criteria guide the diagnosis. The United Kingdom Working Party's validated criteria for AD developed in 1994 is one wel

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, inflammatory condition that affects patients of all ages. Dermatologists and allergists often treat these patients, with each group of specialists following distinct sets of guidelines. Therefore, patients may receive different management depending on the specialist whom they consult.
OBJECTIVE: The goal of this article is to identify similarities and differences in the treatment of adults with AD using the most recent management guidelines in the United States put forth by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and the American Academy of A

Canine atopic dermatitis (cAD) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition associated with T helper 2 (Th2)-type immune responses, and recent evidence suggests that periostin, an extracellular matrix protein, may play a role in its pathogenesis. To investigate the significance of serum periostin concentrations in dogs with cAD, this study examined their relationship with disease severity and laboratory parameters, including eosinophil counts and Th2 cytokines such as interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-13. A total of 68 dogs diagnosed with cAD and 21 healthy controls were included, with serum periostin, IL
