Parenteral nutrition (PN) exacerbates hyperglycemia, which is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in various cancer populations. By using a retrospective design, we examined incident hyperglycemia in PN and non-PN recipients and the associations with clinical events and 5-year survival in a cohort treated for myeloma with melphalan and auto-SCT (n=112). Clinical comparisons were made at admission, and 'before' and 'after' initiating PN to discern differences and temporality. Actual infusion times were used for PN patients; time frames based on mean PN infusion days were created f

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The increasing use of dietary supplements in Türkiye underscores the need for validated instruments to assess dietitians' knowledge, attitudes and self-efficacy regarding supplements. However, no validated Turkish tool is currently available. This study aimed to culturally adapt the Dietitians' Survey of Comfort, Opinions and Preparedness in Education in Supplements (-SCOPE) Questionnaire into Turkish (Diyetisyenlerin Eğitim, Supleman Tercihleri ve Konforu Anketi; DESTEK) and evaluate its psychometric properties.
METHODS: This methodological study included 223 dietitian

INTRODUCTION: Daily nutritional care is often nurse-led, with clinical dietitians involved only upon referral. This study explored the effects of integrating clinical dietitians into daily nutritional care through reallocation of nutritional care tasks at a medical pulmonary ward, focusing on nutritional risk screening practices, patient nutritional intake, and professional perspectives.
METHODS: This multimethod study included three substudies: (1) a retrospective cohort analysis of nutritional risk screening practices, (2) a quasi-experimental comparison of nutritional intake between a hist

INTRODUCTION: Unhealthy eating behaviours and rising rates of undernutrition and obesity remain widespread among children and adolescents. Traditional education often fails to engage this population. In contrast, video and comic book formats offer accessible, engaging tools for nutrition education, but evidence on their effectiveness is inconsistent. This systematic review synthesises and critically appraises the evidence on video- and comic-based interventions for improving nutritional outcomes in children and adolescents.
METHODS: In accordance with PRISMA guidelines a protocol was register

INTRODUCTION: With concerns growing around the impact of western diets on human and planetary health, a global transition is required towards primarily plant-based diets. Although this subject has been the focus of increased research, the potential for meat and dairy reductions in care home settings has not been explored. This study assessed the provision of omnivorous, vegetarian and plant-based meals in UK care homes.
METHODS: In total, 52 menus representing 136 care homes for older people were analysed against a scoring system that reflects the degree to which a menu is plant-forward. Menu

INTRODUCTION: Shift work is an increasingly prevalent feature of the modern workforce, with first responders constituting a critical occupational group required to sustain 24-h operations. Modifiable health behaviour interventions, such as improving diet quality, may be effective in preventing or mitigating the non-communicable disease onset linked to shift work. This review evaluated evidence supporting nutritional interventions in shift workers with first responder populations considered as a pre-specified subgroup of interest.
METHODS: A systematic review (PROSPERO CRD42023421400) evaluate

BACKGROUND: Malnutrition among school-age children and adolescents in Ghana is driven by poor diet quality and weakly regulated school food environments (SFEs). School-based Food and Nutrition Education (SFNE) is a key strategy, but its effectiveness depends on coordinated capacity across sectors. This study assessed the enabling factors, and priority actions for institutionalising SFNE.
METHODS: The FAO SFNE capacity needs assessment tool was used, with a multi-phase qualitative study design. Document review and stakeholder mapping were conducted, followed by a two-day consultative workshop.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Diet is a potential management option for constipation; however, people's perceptions regarding its role and their dietary behaviours are unclear. The aim of this study was to explore the perceptions of the role of diet in constipation, including dietary contributors and relievers of constipation symptoms, and the attitudes towards future dietary research in constipation, in people with self-reported constipation.
METHODS: An online questionnaire was completed by adults with self-reported constipation based in the United Kingdom. Participants responded to questions on con

PURPOSE: The impact of nutritional status on post-stroke outcomes remains controversial, particularly regarding the opposing effects of undernutrition and obesity on recovery. This study investigated how these nutritional conditions influence functional and nutritional outcomes among hospitalized ischaemic stroke survivors.
METHODS: A retrospective study analyzed 160 adults with radiologically confirmed ischaemic stroke admitted to a Brazilian tertiary hospital. Nutritional status was classified by WHO BMI criteria (undernutrition: BMI < 18.5 kg/m2; obesity: BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2). Outcomes included

BACKGROUND: Dietary melatonin, naturally occurring in plant- and animal-based foods, has been linked to beneficial effects on sleep, mood and metabolic health. Although evidence suggests that food-derived melatonin may elevate circulating levels, few studies have assessed its intake through habitual diets or explored associations with chronic disease outcomes in adults.
METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis within an open cohort of university graduates (baseline data). Dietary intake was evaluated using a validated 144-item Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), and melatonin intake w

INTRODUCTION: Nutrition is not currently integrated into standard care provision in sickle cell disease (SCD) impacting patients experience, access and outcomes of nutrition. The lack of understanding of the nutritional needs in SCD and its impact on patient outcomes requires exploration to integrate nutrition into clinical practice. However, there is a paucity of qualitative studies conducted with sickle cell service users/carers to explore their views, knowledge and experiences of nutritional care and the influencing factors affecting nutrition integration in SCD care.

INTRODUCTION: Diabetes prevalence in Kenya is rising, yet care remains constrained by fragmented service delivery, shortages of trained health workers, limited access to diagnostics and medicines, and weak integration of diabetes education and nutrition counselling. These challenges reflect underlying system dynamics that are insufficiently captured by linear assessments.
METHODS: This narrative review synthesised evidence published between 2015 and 2025 and examined diabetes care in Kenya through a systems-thinking approach combining the WHO Health System Building Blocks (HSBB) and the Inter

INTRODUCTION: The incidence of Type II diabetes (T2D) is increasing rapidly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Dedicated nutrition interventions may be a low-cost low-burden method to improve glycemic control. A systematic review was conducted to explore dedicated nutrition interventions in LMICs for people with T2D.
METHODS: An intentionally broad search of Pubmed, ProQuest, and Scopus databases was conducted with multiple terms for diabetes, nutrition, and LMICs. The study authors screened 6778 unique abstracts for inclusion criteria. Following a thorough screening procedure, 37 p

BACKGROUND: Integrating medical and social care requires professionals to navigate and connect distinct systems. In collaboration with a Massachusetts Medicaid Accountable Care Organization (ACO), registered dietitians from partner community-based organizations (CBOs) implemented a medically tailored nutrition program to address food insecurity among clinically complex patients. This study asks: How do dietitians act as boundary-spanning professionals within a cross-sector nutrition program, and how does this work enable integration of medical and social care?
