Posttraumatic elbow contracture following trans-olecranon fracture-dislocation presents a complex challenge due to extensive soft tissue damage and joint stiffness. We report a case of a 46-year-old man who developed severe elbow contracture after the open reduction and internal fixation of a trans-olecranon fracture-dislocation, with a flexion-extension arc limited to 40° and forearm rotation restricted to 50°. A stepwise, three-phased surgical approach was employed. The first stage consisted of arthroscopic capsular release to address flexion-extension contracture. The second stage involved

INTRODUCTION: Proximal humeral fracture-dislocations (PHF-D) are complex injuries, often requiring urgent intervention. However, management protocols remain unclear when anatomical reduction of the glenohumeral joint is achieved, but significant displacement of the greater tuberosity persists. The lack of consensus on whether to reclassify such injuries after reduction creates uncertainty in rehabilitation strategies.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: We present the case of a 53-year-old female who suffered an anterior shoulder dislocation with a displaced greater tuberosity fracture after falling due to

BACKGROUND: Greater tuberosity (GT) fractures associated with shoulder dislocation carry a high risk of secondary displacement, even when initial postreduction alignment appears acceptable. However, the specific factors predicting such displacement remain unclear. The aim of the study was to investigate risk factors associated with displacement of GT fragments following anterior shoulder dislocation.
METHODS: This retrospective study included 52 patients (20 males, 32 females; mean age, 71.5 years) with anterior shoulder dislocation and concomitant GT fractures. Following closed reduction, pa

Fractures in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients tend to occur due to the absence of motion between vertebrae, poor bone quality, and a long lever arm that generates extension force. However, most patients have a history of at least minor trauma. Due to the spine's extreme instability in AS patients, even neurologically intact individuals can experience secondary neurological deterioration after unprotected transfers or manipulations. We report a 59-year-old gentleman presenting late with acute neurological symptoms following a history of trauma. Fracture diagnosis in patients with ankylosing

Certain high-energy blunt forces may produce unstable cervical fractures with or without dislocation. In rare cases where the superior facets are dislocated, however showing a significant increase within the last decade, these types of injuries may include vertebral artery entrapment at the involvement level leading to artery dissection or occlusion. This phenomenon is usually seen at the C4-C5 and C5-C6 levels of injury. A systematic review of the literature was performed by examining online databases such as PubMed - NCBI, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Scopus, and Embase to identify rele

BACKGROUND: Cervical spine fracture-dislocations in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) are mostly unstable and require surgery. However, osteoporosis, one of the comorbidities for AS, could lead to detrimental prognoses. There are few accurate assessments of bone mineral density in AS patients.
AIM: To analyze Hounsfield units (HUs) for assessing bone mineral density in AS patients with cervical fracture-dislocation.
METHODS: The HUs from C2 to C7 of 51 patients obtained from computed tomography (CT) scans and three-dimensional reconstruction of the cervical spine were independently a

BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: Complete posterior atlantoaxial dislocation (PAAD) with an unfractured odontoid process is a rare condition where a dislocated but intact odontoid process is positioned ventrally to the anterior arch of C1. This lesion is related to transverse and alar ligament rupture secondary to hyperextension and rotatory traumatic injury and is often associated with neurological deficit. The treatment strategy remains controversial, and in many cases, odontoidectomy is required. Traditional approaches for odontoidectomy (transnasal and transoral) are technically demanding and ar

Glenohumeral joint is the most frequently dislocated joint of the human body. Concomitant fractures of the coracoid process and tuberculum majus in humeral dislocation of the shoulder joint are rarely described. Concomitant fractures are results of a significant contraction of the surrounding muscles and rotator cuff during a cerebral paroxysm. Due to the small number of cases, the treatment of such injuries is not simple and it is based on an algorithm for treatment of isolated injuries of these anatomical structures. In this case report, we describe a concomitant fracture of the coracoid pro

BACKGROUND: Immobility of the lumbar spine predicts instability following elective total hip arthroplasty (THA). The purpose of this study is to determine how prior lumbar fusion (LF) influenced dislocation rates and revision rates for patients undergoing THA or hemiarthroplasty (HA) for femoral neck fracture (FNF).
METHODS: A retrospective cohort analysis was conducted utilizing the PearlDiver database from 2010 to 2018. Patients who underwent arthroplasty for FNF were identified based on history of LF and whether they underwent THA or HA. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed.

INTRODUCTION: Monteggia fracture-dislocation is defined as a proximal third ulna fracture with radiocapitellar joint dislocation. The term "Monteggia equivalent or variant" describes various injuries with similar radiographic patterns and injury biomechanics. Several isolated cases of unusual injuries associated with Monteggia fractures have been reported. However, an associated TFCC injury has not been described in the literature before. We present a rare report of a 24-year-old female with a Monteggia fracture and associated TFCC injury - a crisscross type of injury.
