Lobular capillary haemangioma (LCH) is a benign proliferation of capillaries with a characteristic lobular architecture on microscopy; it has an affinity for mucous membrane and skin of the head and neck. It is extremely rare in the nasal cavity. We present the case of a 45-year-old man who presented with epistaxis without any predisposing factors, which was diagnosed as lobular capillary haemangioma.

Angiofibrolipomas are one of the rarest variants of lipoma, a benign mesenchymal tumor composed of adipose tissue. Histologic examination of angiofibrolipomas reveals mature adipocytes, vascular tissue, and fibrous connective tissue. This case report describes an angiofibrolipoma in the oral cavity of a 40-year-old woman. A soft, painless, pedunculated mass was attached to the distolingual gingiva in the region of the mandibular third molar. The provisional diagnosis was pyogenic granuloma. The mass was excised using electrocautery, and the tissue was submitted for histologic examination. Hist

Five cases of non-neuronal granular cell tumours of the oral cavity are documented in the literature. Additionally, one case of a non-neuronal granular cell tumour with features of malignancy was described. A malignant granular cell tumour is a rare neoplasm and counterpart of a benign granular cell tumour. The cell of origin of the granular cell tumour was reported from the Schwann cell. Some granular cells originated from non-neural components and were negative for immunohistochemistry S100. Immunohistochemistry is required to confirm further and categorize ulcero-proliferative and erythemat

Epidemiological data on the distribution of oral and maxillofacial diseases present in early childhood are scarce in the literature. This study analyzed the frequency of lesions biopsied in this region in children aged 0 to 3 years and sent for histopathological analysis in a reference oral pathology laboratory . Histopathological diagnostic data, lesion location, sex, and age were collected. Of the total of 93,950 records, 250 cases (0.27%) belonged to the age group from 0 to 3 years old. The most frequently diagnosed oral alterations were: mucocele (34/250; 13.6%); papilloma (11/250; 4.4%),

The non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHLs) is a diverse group of lymphoid neoplasms, prevalence of which increased since three decades. NHL is diverse in the manner of presentation, response to various treatment and prognosis. NHL usually involves not only lymph nodes but also extranodal sites. Usually, oral manifestation of NHL is secondary to the widespread involvement throughout the body. Oral NHL is relatively rare and difficult to diagnose in clinical setting as it presents as local swelling, pain, discomfort and mimics pyogenic granuloma, periodontal disease, osteomyelitis and other malignancies.

Malignant eccrine poroma was first described by Pinkus and Mehregon in 1963. Because of the histologic characteristics of the tumor, these authors concluded that the tumor was likely of eccrine origin. Malignant eccrine poroma originates from the intraepidermal ductal portion of the eccrine gland. Like other tumors of skin adnexa, malignant eccrine poroma is a rare tumor. It mostly affects older persons. Clinical diagnosis is difficult, and lesions are often mistakenly identified as squamous cell carcinoma or pyogenic granuloma. We report a case of malignant eccrine poroma invading the parotid

The epithelioid cell histiocytoma (ECH) is a polypoidal benign tumor of superficial connective tissue that is often diagnosed as a pyogenic granuloma. ECHs are speculated to originate from dermal dendritic subunits and are composed of 2 primary cell populations, ie, CD34+ primitive fibroblastic dendrocytes and factor XIIIa+ histiocytes. Although dendritic subunits are distributed throughout most collagenous tissues inclusive of oral mucosa, to date, all reported cases of ECH have been cutaneous lesions. ECHs' putative pathogenesis entails activation of CD34+ "sentinel" reserve dendrocytes, fol

CASE REPORT: A sixty year old woman presented with a tumor of the caruncle that had persisted for one year. Ophthalmologic history was unremarkable. Physical examination disclosed an indolent, tight elastic, highly vascularizated tumor. The lesion measured five millimeter in diameter. Histopathology revealed tall columnar cells with small round nuclei. The cytoplasm stained positive with hematoxylin and eosin. The typical histopathologic features were consistent with an oncocytoma.
CONCLUSION: Tumors of the caruncle are very heterogenous because the caruncle contains tissues of the conjunctiv

Immunohistochemical staining for factor VIII-related antigen (FVIII-RAG) with the peroxidase-antiperoxidase technic was used as a marker for endothelial cells in a variety of nevoid, reactive, and malignant vascular cutaneous proliferations. The endothelial cells of small normal cutaneous vessels gave the strongest reaction. The cells of hemangioma and angiokeratoma generally were stained, but with less consistency. In lymphangioma, pyogenic granuloma, and pigmented purpuric dermatosis, positivity was either patchy or of lesser intensity. Numerous strongly positive endothelial cells lining wel

Lobular capillary hemangioma (LCH) is a benign capillary proliferation with a microscopically distinctive lobular architecture, composed of small to medium-sized vessels of capillary type. Rarely, it originates from the mucosa of the nasal cavity, most frequently from the anterior nasal septum, turbinates, and nasal vestibule. Etiology is unclear, but previous investigations suggest that this lesion is associated with injury, hormonal factors, some viral infections, and therapy with some drugs. We present a case of LCH arising from the medial wall of the maxillary sinus in a 15-year-old boy, w

We reported the case of a 55-year-old man with a large tracheal lobular capillary haemangioma attached to posterior tracheal wall and successfully managed with arterial embolization followed by endoscopic resection using Harmonic™ ACE Plus. Because of the high risk of bleeding, Harmonic™ was used in this case due to its ability to cut and cauterize simultaneously. The instrument jaw repeatedly grasped the attachment point of tumor, and then the cavitation effect, created by the longitudinal vibration of the blade tip, separated it from the posterior tracheal wall, reducing the risk of perforat

Vascular tumors are benign neoplasms, which result from proliferating endothelial cells. These lesions present during infancy or childhood, may affect any location, and exhibit postnatal growth. Local complications include bleeding, tissue destruction, and pain whereas systemic sequelae include thrombocytopenia, congestive heart failure, and death. Vascular tumors should be differentiated from vascular malformations, which present at birth, have a quiescent endothelium, and grow in proportion to the child. Together, vascular tumors and malformations comprise the field of vascular anomalies.

Gingiva is one of the common sites for many reactive, benign and malignant lesions. Localized gingival overgrowths usually present with a wide variety of clinical and histopathological features, and it will create a challenge for proper diagnosis. We report a case of a 48-year-old male patient with a slow-growing swelling on the lower anterior gingiva, extending to the floor of the mouth. A differential diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma or salivary gland neoplasm was considered. The lesion was diagnosed as clear cell variant of calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumour after the histopathological

Schwannoma, a benign tumor, arise from schwann cells of myelin sheath; occur anywhere in the body but commonly occur on flexor aspect of extremities. Nasal septum being the rarer site. We report a case of nasal septum schwannoma in an 18-year-old female presented with intermittent epistaxis and progressively increasing nasal obstruction for 2-year duration. The differential diagnosis of juvenile angiofibroma, pyogenic granuloma, and pleomorphic adenoma was made and complete surgical excision was done. Histopathological examination revealed ciliated stratified columnar epithelium, underlying tu

Natal teeth are infrequent at birth. Dental extraction is the most recommended treatment to avoid complications. Reactive soft tissue lesions associated to natal tooth or its incomplete removal are rare. A five-month-old female presented natal teeth #71 and #81 which were removed the day after the birth. The baby evolved with two nodules in the region of #71 and #81, pedunculated, 10 and 9 mm, respectively, covered by a pink mucosa, firm in consistency. Periapical radiography showed two radiopaque areas, suggestive of root fragments. After 30 days the nodule located in the region of #81 became

The differential diagnosis of pinkish, firm nodules is difficult and has been based mainly on the morphology of vessels in dermoscopy. The aim of the study was to present dermoscopic features of two nodular pilonidal cysts in the diagnostic procedure of pink nodular lesions. The cases presented here belong to a rare variety of nodular pilonidal cysts known as the "motorcyclist's" or " jeep driver's nodule". Dermoscopy reveals an irregular, whitish and pink-colored background, with centrally located confluent, whitish streaks extending within the lesion, radial from the center to the periphery.
