BACKGROUND: Chronic locked shoulder dislocations account for 2% to 5% of all shoulder dislocations. There is little information regarding th … unctional limitations. Structural indications included an impression fracture involving ≥45% of the humeral head, fibrosis of the articular cartilage, and/or severe osteopenia of the humeral head. When one-third or more of the glenoid was devoid of articular cartilage, a glenoid component was placed. All patients were followed for a minimum of two years (mean, …

BACKGROUND: Recommended treatment for severely displaced proximal humeral fractures in children is the closed reduction and percutaneous fixation by K-wires or intramedullary nailing.
METHODS: From January 2016 to January 2017 6, 21 children/adolescents (range 8 to 16 years) with proximal humeral fractures were treated surgically for severe displacement. In these six patients, several attempts of closed reduction were unsuccessful, and an open reduction was performed. The humeral head was fixed with a 3.5 mm T-plate without affecting the growth plate. Plate removal was performed at a mean int…

OBJECTIVE: To explore clinical effect of allogeneic peroneal bone marrow support combined with plate internal fixation in treating Neer type Ⅳproximal humeral fractures.
METHODS: From December 2017 to December 2020,12 patients with Neer type Ⅳ proximal humeral fractures were treated with allogeneic peroneal bone marrow support combined with plate internal fixation, including 7 males and 5 females, aged from 56 to 78 years old;the time from injury to operation ranged from 1 to7 days. OBJECTIVES: To report on the long-term outcomes of the management of translated proximal humerus fractures.
DESIGN: A prospective cohort study was conducted from January 2010 to December 2018.
SETTING: Academic Level 1 trauma center.
PARTICIPANTS/PATIENTS: A total of 108 patients with a proximal humerus fracture with ≥100% translation, defined as no cortical bony contact between the shaft and humeral head fragments, were included.
INTERVENTION: Patients were managed nonoperatively with sling immobilization or with operative management as determined by the treating surgeon.

BACKGROUND: The valgus-impacted (VI) 4-part fractures are a subset of fractures of the proximal humerus with a unique anatomic configuration … eous suturing of the tuberosities to each other, to the metaphysis and to the articular part of the humeral head avoiding gross disimpaction of the humeral head from the valgus position. Functional outcome assessment was performed using the parameters of the Constant-Murley score within a mean follow up period of 43,8 months (range, 24 to 115 months).

Osteoporosis international : a journal established as result of cooperation between the European Foundation for Osteoporosis and the National Osteoporosis Foundation of the USA2015eng
UNLABELLED: After surgical fixation, osteoporotic proximal humeral fractures often show high impaction and loss of reduction. This study aims at assessing the amount of impaction and loss of reduction at a short and medium follow-up. We found an alarming percentage of cases showing these complications in the first postoperative months.
INTRODUCTION: This study seeks to quantify the amount of humeral head impaction and loss of reduction in a consecutive series of osteoporotic proximal humerus fractures treated with a locking plate.
METHODS: A series of displaced proximal humerus fractures wer…

BACKGROUND: Open reduction and internal fixation is one established method for treatment of displaced fractures of the proximal humerus. However, the timing of surgery and its effect on complications have not yet been investigated in the literature. Hence, aim of this study was to analyze the occurrence of complication following locked plating of proximal humeral fractures when surgery was delayed in comparison to early intervention.
METHODS: Between February 2002 and November 2010, 497 patients with displaced proximal humeral fractures were treated by open reduction and locked plating. 329 p

Surgery to transfer the axillary nerve and the nerve of the long head of the triceps presents two obstacles: 1) the access portals are not standardized and 2) the nerves are for their larger part approached through large incisions. The goal of this study was to explore the feasibility of an endoscopic microsurgical approach. The posterior aspect of a cadaver shoulder was approached through three communicating mini-incisions. The Da Vinci robot camera was installed on a central trocart, and the instrument arms on the adjacent trocarts. A gas insufflation distended the soft tissues up to the lat

The management of irreparable posterosuperior massive rotator cuff tears remains challenging. With advances in arthroscopic techniques, minimally invasive arthroscopic latissimus dorsi tendon (LDT) transfer has been increasingly used for irreparable posterosuperior massive rotator cuff tears. The present article describes arthroscopic LDT transfer in the lateral decubitus position for irreparable posterosuperior massive rotator cuff tears. The dissection and release of the LDT were performed through the interval between long head of the biceps tendon and humeral shaft. When releasing the LDT,

BACKGROUND: Shoulder pseudodislocation, or "drooping shoulder," presents with acute pain and deformity of the joint, with radiographs demonstrating inferior subluxation of the humeral head relative to the glenoid fossa. The diagnosis must be made promptly and distinguished from true glenohumeral dislocation, both to avoid unnecessary attempts at closed reduction and to facilitate investigation of the underlying cause, which may include septic arthritis, hemarthrosis, or other emergent etiologies. Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) may be useful in the evaluation of emergency department (ED) pati…

Forty-two humeral diaphyseal fractures in 41 patients were treated at three centers between April 1988 and November 1989. There were 28 acut … ment until rod removal. Six patients had restricted shoulder function, one due to a fracture of the humeral head and five from a lateral deltoid incision. This incision was used in 12 cases. There were no stiff shoulders when using an anterior deltoid incision.

BACKGROUND: Little is known about non-operative treatment of proximal humerus 4-part and severe displaced fractures as those are normally treated operatively. In this study, we present a historical collective of two level I trauma centers, where all humeral head fractures, despite displaced fractures, received non-operative treatment within a 10 years period. Functional and clinical results of 2-, 3- and 4-part fractures were compared to those after fixed angle intramedullary nailing by matched pair analysis.
METHODS: Between 2000 and 2010, 167 patients with 2-, 3- and 4-part humeral head fra…
