Reaginic antibody production by Hypoderma lineatum and H bovis larval antigens were evaluated in three calves using passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA). Two calves were sensitised with soluble extract of H lineatum larvae and a third was injected with 43 hatching H bovis larvae. Blood serum taken from the calves was injected intradermally in 0.1 ml volumes into three test calves. Lidocaine hydrochloride is the most commonly used anesthetic agent in dermatology. Despite its widespread and frequent use, adverse reactions to lidocaine are uncommon. The majority of side effects include vasovagal reactions and local side effects consisting of bruising and edema at the injection site. Immunologically mediated allergic reactions are thought to account for only 1% of these adverse reactions. We report an extremely rare case of a true type I hypersensitivity allergy to lidocaine hydrochloride.

Behçet's disease is very difficult to diagnose because its clinical signs overlap with those of other systemic diseases. Thus there is a clear need for nonclinical diagnostic criteria for Behçet's disease. The nonspecific cutaneous hyperreactivity response, pathergy, may serve as an important diagnostic indicator. Thirty-nine cases of pulmonary paragonimiasis due to Paragonimus westermani were identified in Manipur, India. Recurrent haemoptysis, often increased on exertion, was the most common symptom. Leukemic antigens were obtained from organs derived from lymphoblastic leukemia by extraction and immunosorption on columns containing anti-human tissue immunoglobulins. Eighteen Rhesus monkeys were immunized with a fresh or lyophilized antigen preparation obtained from erythrocytes infected with Plasmodium knowlesi. Sixteen of these monkeys showed a positive delayed hypersensitivity response when subsequently skin tested with the immunizing antigen.
