[Biomechanical comparison of various emergency stabilization measures of the pelvic ring].

Massive bleeding with shock is still the most frequent reason for early death after complex pelvic trauma. For hemostasis, fracture stabilization in the pelvic ring is an important aspect. By use of the external fixator and introduction of emergency pelvic c-clamps, attempts were made to include pelvic ring stabilization on the early resuscitation algorithm. This biomechanical study compared a simple anterior external fixator (one supraacetabular pin on each side), the emergency pelvic c-clamp (Ganz) and the Browner modification of the clamp ("ACE clamp"). Two fresh-frozen human cadaver pelves

[Management of femur shaft fracture in the growth age with the fixateur externe].

Non-operative management is still the treatment of choice today for femoral shaft fractures in children. Indications for operative intervention would include: - the child with multiple injuries, particularly with severe head injuries, in those patients with severe soft tissue damage associated with the fracture; in cases where the reduction is difficult to maintain, as in subtrochanteric fractures; and in children who are not suitable for management with traction. Since 1984, 16 children have had their femoral shaft fractures stabilized by external fixation (Monofixateur) here in the Trauma De

Pushing the Limits of Interlimb Connectivity: Neuromodulation and Beyond.

The ability to walk is often lost after neural injury, leading to multiple secondary complications that reduce quality of life and increase healthcare costs. The current rehabilitation interventions primarily focus on restoring leg movements through intensive training on a treadmill or using robotic devices, but ignore engaging the arms. Several groups have recently shown that simultaneous arm and leg (A&L) cycling improves walking function and interlimb connectivity. These findings highlight the importance of neuronal pathways between the arm (cervical) and leg (lumbar) control regions in the

(FLiP) fracture-table vs. lateral positioning for femoral intramedullary nailing: A survey of orthopaedic surgeon preferences.

BACKGROUND: Femoral shaft fractures are common and severe injuries that often occur alongside other complex, high-energy injuries. Definitive internal fixation using reamed, locked intramedullary nailing (IMN) has become the standard of care in adequately resuscitated patients, commonly performed in the supine position with utilization of a fracture table. The lateral position, without the use of traction, offers an alternative that may be associated with lower complication rates. Given the lack of high-quality evidence in the area, this study was designed to assess the attitudes, knowledge ba

Difference in leg asymmetry between female collegiate athletes and recreational athletes during drop vertical jump.

BACKGROUND: Neuromuscular imbalance will lead to loading asymmetry in sporting activities. This asymmetry is related to leg dominance, which has been associated with increased risk of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Therefore, potential biomechanical differences between legs are important. However, little attention has been paid to the biomechanical details of leg dominance. The purpose of the present study was to clarify the relationship between leg dominance and knee biomechanics in females with different activity level during dynamic athletic tasks. METHODS: A total of 23 female c

Lower Limb Biomechanics During Level Walking After an Isolated Posterior Cruciate Ligament Rupture.

BACKGROUND: The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is an important structure in knee stabilization. Knee cartilage degeneration after a PCL injury has been reported in several studies. Understanding the changes in movement patterns of patients with PCL ruptures could help clinicians make specific treatment protocols to restore patients' sporting ability and prevent joint degeneration. However, the kinematics and kinetics of the lower limb in patients with PCL injuries are still not clear. PURPOSE: To investigate the biomechanical characteristics during level walking in patients with isolated P
