Trust and mistrust in fan relationship management: survey evidence on Russian football fans.

INTRODUCTION: Trust is a key factor in governance and business. This is notably the case in professional sports with the large stakeholder group of fans as they claim a more active role than consumers in other industries. Thus, they may influence sport policy directly or indirectly, positively or negatively, through their communication, self-organization, coordinated activism and behavior. Particularly in football, the relationship between fans and sport organizations has attracted the interest of researchers. However, empirical studies primarily focused on Western football leagues within libe

Impact of currents on non-equilibrium coexistence in chemically driven mixtures.

Virtually every biological function emerges through the organization of molecules in time and space. Consequently, a major challenge in statistical physics is to uncover the universal principles governing macromolecular self-organization within the crowded, non-equilibrium environment of the cell. Here, we investigate a class of models where molecules maintain a conserved total concentration but can switch "identities," thereby modulating their intermolecular interactions. By enforcing thermodynamic consistency via the local detailed balance condition, we derive the steady-state criteria deter

COVID-19 response in northwest Syria: innovation and community engagement in a complex conflict.

Despite lacking capacity and resources, the health system in the northwest Syria is using innovative approaches for the containment of COVID-19. Lessons drawn from previous outbreaks in the region, such as the polio outbreak in 2013 and the annual seasonal influenza, have enabled the Early Warning and Response Network, a surveillance system to develop mechanisms of predicting risk and strengthening surveillance for the new pandemic. Social media tools such as WhatsApp are effectively collecting health information and communicating health messaging about COVID-19. Community engagement has also

Bullous pemphigoid: Italian guidelines adapted from the EDF/EADV guidelines.

Bullous pemphigoid is the most common autoimmune subepidermal blistering disease of the skin and mucous membranes. This disease typically affects the elderly and presents with itch and localized or generalized bullous lesions. In up to 20% of affected patients blister may be completely absent, and only excoriations, prurigo-like lesions, eczematous lesions, urticated lesions, and/or infiltrated plaques are observed. The disease is significantly associated with neurological disorders. The morbidity of bullous pemphigoid and its impact on the quality of life are significant. So far, a limited nu

Branching morphogenesis in the developing kidney is governed by rules that pattern the ureteric tree.

Metanephric kidney development is orchestrated by the iterative branching morphogenesis of the ureteric bud. We describe an underlying patterning associated with the ramification of this structure and show that this pattern is conserved between developing kidneys, in different parts of the organ and across developmental time. This regularity is associated with a highly reproducible branching asymmetry that is consistent with locally operative growth mechanisms. We then develop a class of tip state models to represent elaboration of the ureteric tree and describe rules for 'half-delay' branchin

Analysis of the Paracoccidioides brasiliensis triosephosphate isomerase suggests the potential for adhesin function.

Paracoccidioides brasiliensis is an important fungal pathogen. The disease it causes, paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM), ranges from localized pulmonary infection to systemic processes that endanger the life of the patient. Paracoccidioides brasiliensis adhesion to host tissues contributes to its virulence, but we know relatively little about molecules and the molecular mechanisms governing fungal adhesion to mammalian cells. Triosephosphate isomerase (TPI: EC 5.3.1.1) of P. brasiliensis (PbTPI) is a fungal antigen characterized by microsequencing of peptides. The protein, which is predominantly ex

SH3 domains: complexity in moderation.

The SH3 domain is perhaps the best-characterized member of the growing family of protein-interaction modules. By binding with moderate affinity and selectivity to proline-rich ligands, these domains play critical roles in a wide variety of biological processes ranging from regulation of enzymes by intramolecular interactions, increasing the local concentration or altering the subcellular localization of components of signaling pathways, and mediating the assembly of large multiprotein complexes. SH3 domains and their binding sites have cropped up in many hundreds of proteins in species from ye

Recurrent breast cancer: factors influencing survival, including treatment.

Factors influencing survival were reviewed in 464 patients with recurrent breast cancer. Site of first recurrence and rate of tumor progression governed prognosis more than choice of initial therapy. Overall median survival was 22--26 months for bone/soft-tissue disease, 10--12 months for pleura/lung, and 4--6 months for liver/brain recurrence. Patients with slow rates of tumor progression at each site had longer survival terms than did rapid progressors. About 50% of patients with bone or soft-tissue recurrence had slow progression and long survival, regardless of whether initial treatment wa

Study of line tension and its impact on protein organization in model domain-forming membranes.

Membrane domains, commonly referred to as lipid rafts, play a crucial role in numerous cellular processes; however, the factors governing their stability and associated protein organization remain debated. Here, we employ coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations to systematically investigate the molecular determinants of interfacial line tension and its role in membrane organization. We first demonstrate that capillary wave theory provides reliable estimates of line tension, provided that boundary fluctuations are adequately sampled. Our results reveal that domain stability is not primari
